Your description from what you make of the track’s performance is something interesting when comparing to the actual story of the series 😆 Nonetheless this is one of my fav stories I’ve ever experienced and it’s a treasure trove of love for storytelling as a whole and is transcendental in totality I would say. Tho I hope the others here can maybe give some insight on this particular track and the series itself too ! Thank you so much again brother ! :D

Wonderful video, and just as confirmation, your analysis of the feeling of dread was absolutely correct. The composition reflects not only the imposing threat of the creatures the hunters were 'hunting' but an even deeper feeling of dread where these creatures posed a challenge to the very position of humans as apex predators, hence the title. The track is deep to represent a deep story!

I don't know if it's been said in the chat, but while this anime isn't "horror" it certainly has horror elements-- between it's themes, tone (at points) and setting. Especially this arc in the show-- also the composer IIRC composed for the Death Note Anime! And as another aside, it's funny that you mention Holst as there is an homage to his work called " Rhapsody on the Theme of Holst " if you haven't listened to it already. I'm gushing at this point, but honestly? The entire sound track is excellent.

I would say it was a horror scene when this theme was played. Everyone was terrified.

Hunter x Hunter is definitely the greatest anime of all time if you disagree you are either in denial or wrong.

HxH isn't a horror anime but it does have some themes common to horror works. It's a complex story with various facets so it's not limited to one single genre.

Wonderful analisis, as always. You are right: this theme plays in the "kimera ants" arc of the series. Each arc of hunter x hunter has a particular atmosphere: the first arc is an exam to become hunter, the second arc is about searching for a friend, the third is an initiation tournament, the fourth is pretty much a gangster movie, the fifth is an adventure on a remote island...then, there is this arc, wich is, you named it, pretty much a horror film. The sheer perfection of the score in general, and of this music in particular is astounding. If I remember correctly, the différent sections of this score play in fights, chases or sometimes in scenes of complete chaos and despair. You should listen to "Obvious difference of power", you should like it

HxH isn't exactly comparable to Monster Hunter. In the world of HxH, hunters are highly skilled individuals. They can be like mercenaries or they can do whatever they want... but whatever they do, they are always on the 'hunt' for something that they want. It can be anything you can imagine. Money? Yes. Creatures? Yes? Animals? Also yes. Knowledge? Of course that too and let's throw food in the mix as well. Basically, they're kinda comparable to adventurers in a guild you see in fantasy stories and games. But then set in a world that's close to our real world in terms of structure.

Ahh Hunter X Hunter, the show that went from a normalish anime to a masterpiece of writing in 1 massive story arc (not saying everything prior or before isnt good, just saying chimera arc is amazing)

HxH 1999 had the superior OST, sorry kiddos.
