Conan (Arnold Schwarzenegger) fights Bombaata while Zula (Grace Jones) and the others attempt to stop the sacrifice of Princess Jehnna (Olivia d'Abo).
FILM DESCRIPTION:
Based on a character created by Robert E. Howard, this fast-paced, occasionally humorous sequel to Conan the Barbarian features the hero (Arnold Schwarzenegger) as he is commissioned by the evil queen Taramis (Sarah Douglas) to safely escort a teen princess (Olivia D'Abo) and her powerful bodyguard (Wilt Chamberlain) to a far away castle to retrieve the magic Horn of Dagon. Unknown to Conan, the queen plans to sacrifice the princess when she returns and inherit her kingdom after the bodyguard kills Conan. The queen's plans fail to take into consideration Conan's strength and cunning and the abilities of his sidekicks: the eccentric wizard Akiro (Mako), the wild woman Zula (Grace Jones), and the inept Malak (Tracey Walter). Together the hero and his allies must defeat both mortal and supernatural foes in this voyage to sword-and-sorcery land.

I loved this scene so much as a kid. So much going on, two physical beasts fighting each other, monsters, lightning, Gods...so awesome. However, the best thing in both these movies was the music.

I totally agree!! This scene was amazing to watch as a kid growing up in the 80s. The way the statue moved and transformed was spellbinding... But the music was the best part ;)

When I was young, I was wondering why they where hyping up Dagoth soo much, when in the end it was just a regular monster that was killed by normal weapons. But then I figured it out. His resurrection was not full. The only reason why Conan could fight on equal ground with this creature and kill it, was because the princess was not sacrificed, and thus Dagoth was not brought back in full power.

Bruh my dad took me to see this at the movies when I was NINE. And its literally the first movie I ever watched with my buddies when we got cable television LMAO . The CLANG when Bombaata drops the axe still gives me goosebumps.

I've watched this movie for first time few years ago (3 or 4, don't remember exactly), but I can say that the Dagoth awakening is one of the awesome made scenes... With no CGI involved. Just amazing!!!

I crack up when he pulls the horn off, after all the trouble he went through to get it, and just tosses it aside like garbage. In the book, Taramis...offers herself...to the statue, way before the horn is returned.

I'm always learning nuances I missed before. The failed sacrafice made Dagoth angry, and therefore he arrived not in his god-form but in a mortal reptilian form. I always thought when I was little that the reptilian monstrosity was what they were after all along.

@@gaspainsify Read the book and the comic. Dagoth was always a monster, even before he lost his horn the first time in the war of the gods. The statue was a deceit to get gullible mortals to return his horn.

To this day, I wonder if Dagoth still would've went nuts had they not killed the priest & interrupted the ritual. After all, perhaps it's just the way they edited the scene, but the statue didn't start going "evil" until Zula stabbed him with her spear.

Yeah, I think the interruption of the sacrifice changed it's appearance but, showed Dagoth for what it truly was, a demon.

I understand that technically, there was no interruption. More of a deviation: the wrong person getting sacrificed (Evil Wizard/Priest) or killed. That caused Dagoth to inherit the Wizard's evilness instead of the Princess' (who was Virgin) purity. That said, I like to believe that had the Princess got sacrificed in time, maybe we would end up with someone with some of the appearance and personality of Slaanesh, the Chaos God of Pleasure from Warhammer 40,000. If neither got killed, then Dagoth would have come out in his default/original form, neither screwed up or purified. But killing the Princess after the Wizard got killed, would not have changed or undamaged the situation. Best was for the horn to be removed right there and then. I also believe that the person getting sacrificed needs to be in view/close proximity of the Statue. So had Conan killed Bombaata sooner, that would not had effected the transformation.

@@SSGLGamesVlogs Dagoth was always a deformed demon, but took on that "beautiful" form to fool humans to re-summon it. Sacrificing the virgin would've caused it to be summoned as a demon, but even more powerful than the state that it was in the film.

I enjoyed the Conan films starring Arnie. As a teenager, I read all the Robert E Howard original Conan books and short stories and those by L. Sprague de Camp. Cracking stories of sword and sorcery. Conan never minced his words: I think the line "say that again and I'll spill your guts on the floor" sums him up nicely. I attempted to watch a later Conan film (I can't remember the name of the lead actor) but I found it to be total bollocks.

@@inimitabletom Yes, they are different. The flute in the movie sounds different. I don't have the original vinyl or CD of this movie's soundtrack so I have no idea if the actual film version is even on those. All that is on KZfaq seems to be the one from the Prague Philharmonic Orchestra.

The filming really downplays just how freaking HUGE Bombaata is. The actor, Wilt Chamberlain, was 2,16 metres tall, a proper giant. Almost three heads taller than Schwarzenneger.

@@zsoltkiss545 Schwarzenegger's height was exaggerated he was never 6'2 despite internet search claims. I'm 5'10 and when I met Schwarzenegger he was the same height as me I'm 5'10 and a half to three quarters and he was no taller than I was. I realize he may have lost some height over time but there's no way he was 6'2

Same, only he would have been even more powerful. A sliver of his essence was in her that let her touch the key and the horn. He wanted that essence returned once he awoke. He would have ended the world either way.

I just find it strange how the evil Queen Taramis who had planned to kill Conan and his friends after getting the jewel that led to the horn being procured but failed since Conan and Zula were able to easily fight off the Queen’s guards sent to kill them and the keepers of the horn so badly did everything under the sun to get that horn into Dagoth only to end up killed in the great evil from his rebirth. I guess they thought they could control him. It is a very chilling prophecy though as written on the walls in when Akira deciphered it and how Dagoth begins to show signs of life upon the horn being placed into him but ultimately ends up distorting into a disfigured horned monstrosity upon the killings of the Vizier and Bombaata. This element always frightened me more than it’s predecessor in spite of this movie being more lighthearted.

It seems that Dagoth get strength from killing people. He started controlling lightning only after he killed Taramis, but as Taramis was definitely NOT a virgin, he was still not at his full strength and Conan was able to defeat him.

Always wondered why Dagoth went all Clayface-y then morphed into reptile-ish fishy thing....Was he pissed off that he was deprived his long overdue dosage of virgin sacrifice or was the statue just a cover to trick Taramis and the others into getting his horn and reviving him and he was going to go that route anyway? That writing on the wall said "men will fear death to the world" Wouldve love a little more screen time on Dagoth but still one of my favorite movies.

Second one... Dagoth was always a demonic being. It wouldn't have transformed into a "Human God", but an even stronger version of the being in the film. Failing to sacrifice the virgin only made it weaker. If it was sacrificed? It'd be an even larger monstrosity capable of dominating the world as the demonic form presented. It only had the "beautiful" human form, as a statue, to deceive humans into re-summoning it. The very same way that the Setites would have been eaten and sacrificed if they ever summoned Set.

I would like someone to make a "what would have happened if Princess Jehnna had been sacrificed." video. Assume Dagoth would have been a little controlled but ultimately would trick the evil queen and go on a rampage only to be stopped by Conan.

So good question. He was basically going to change into a human God form if she was sacrificed but because she wasn't he turned into a beast and couldn't be controlled or reasoned with killing everyone.

@@HipHopEmperorSalute Dagoth was always a demonic being. It wouldn't have transformed into a "Human God", but an even stronger version of the being in the film. Failing to sacrifice the virgin only made it weaker. If it was sacrificed? It'd be an even larger monstrosity capable of dominating the world as the demonic form presented. It only had the "beautiful" human form, as a statue, to deceive humans into re-summoning it.
