CONCRETE SLAB SHED FLOOR | Last minute change of plan!

Having decided to upgrade the floor while the end wall was still down, meant it was time to put the mixer to work and get to work! I would suggest that this is probably the most that it is worth doing yourself, any more and a truck would make more sense. That said, with forward thinking a slab this size is a good days work mixed through to trowel.

Just finished my 10 foot wide 5 foot tall double drive gates after watching one of you videos on building your own. Saved me an absolute fortune! Said to my son this morning about building my own custom built shed/workshop and then I find this video. Awsome. Bloody good job Sir and thanks for the tips so far 👍

Good effort, hardest thing is time difference of mix . I done a larger workshop mixing ourselves and it a long job waiting for last poured to harden off . Decent floor in a shed makes it more useful, be useful work area and reliable storage for decades to come . Great to see the dog the girls and the cat willing lend a hand and paw lol .

Great work. Just finished my new man cave shed. Started of with a basic timber frame idea. That soon escalated to block wall, coloured render and grp roof, just have epoxy floor to put down now. Went with 2 part Watco floor paint from their basics range. I had used 1 part garage floor paint before and so much has peeled despite loads of prep was not going down that route again

Its good to see some semblance of good building practice, even though its a shed Ideally, the slab should have been poured before the wall were erected but this shows how to do it when the walls are existing. Some light gauge mesh might have been useful in controlling any cracking but your mix was not overly wet and the area small, so that shrinkage ought to be minimal, there is a good chance the slab will remain in good condition. It will require an anti-dusting agent to seal the surface and prevent too much wear. Along with various bodies (literally) holding up motorway bridges, I bet there are some little folk under daddy's shed slab!!!! lol

My uncle took me on a big tiling job in a university when I was young. Different trades from all over the country were present. He was levelling off a large base, his old knees in agony. Asked me to get a couple of buckets of water or something and I sprang into action, walking straight over his lovely fresh mortar. A mixture of laughter and daggers directed at me. 🙈

Not sure it would hold up to banging around on an anvil, etc. Might do if you could get a strong enough bond but would worry about it delaminating.

You should take a look at the foam cushion flooring sold in Halfords,amonst other places.Its interlocking and relatively cheap.Its thick enough to cushion the floor and act as insulation.,,and it also covers a multitude of sins..

I'm looking to lay a slab a similar size but I've used a calculator on the blue circle website and its coming back over £500 based on 4x2 metre slab @100mm thick. That's is b&q blue circle, (£6.42 per bag). Could I ask what you used? Thanks for great video.
@TheRestorationCouple

Guessing that is a pre mix? This took a couple if bags of ballast and 10-14 cement, ( not sure exactly as I had some here already.

Would it have been easier to rough arse the slab in and not bother with the bob on finish then pour self levelling compound to finish it?
@TheRestorationCouple
@TheRestorationCouple 3 жыл бұрын
This is being used for metal work and blacksmithing so possibly not durable enough to have self levelling. Plus self levelling would have cost more than the whole slab anyway.

I guess we were done by 3pm, so prob 4-5 hours for mixing and pouring and then all the rest of the day/night to mess around trowelling it.

Would readymix have been that much more expensive considering the saved effort?
@TheRestorationCouple
@TheRestorationCouple 4 жыл бұрын
For 1m3 yes. You usually have to pay for 50% of the empty part of the load so would have been more. Like I said, any more than this I would have but with this particular project and the location it’s in, mixing made sense. Most of the work is floating and troweling so that bit takes the same time.
