In this short video, I took some time to maintain some of my gear. I noticed my leather boots were starting to dry out, so I decided to condition them using some Fiebing's Aussie Leather Conditioner. I rubbed a good amount of the conditioner into the boot and allowed it to penetrate the leather. Doing this stops the leather from drying and possibly cracking. It also helps keep the boot water resistant and supple. Another step you can do if you care about how nice your boot look is to try buffing the leather. Using a horse hair brush, buff the leather briskly to get the left over leather conditioner off giving the leather back it's natural shine or matte look. If you aren't interested in doing this as I was, using the boot will rub the remainder of the conditioner off naturally.

Nice video Nicholas. When I was in the air force many years ago, we would heat up the shoe polish for better penetration. They also shined up real well. They don’t shine boot anymore! Thanks

Hello Mr. Nick!, I don't care if the videos are short or long, I watch'em all! I guess it's the way I was raised, but Dad always used either bear or mink "grease" in his leather goods. So that's what I do also. I haven't tried a leather conditioner before. Maybe I check it out. Either way, Thank You for the video Sir. Please keep the videos coming and Happy Camping!!!

Magníficas botas Hanwag, esta marca de botas es muy buena, y este modelo se ve guapísimo. Me encanta cuidar del material y dejar las botas limpias y engrasadas la próxima aventura. No conocía esas crema. Gracias por compartir. Saludos desde España.

Good video. I use Obenhuf's instead. I've had great luck with it. Does a good job of waterproofing as well.

Hey dude.like these vids as it can help put different ideas out here in internet land. You ever try warming your treatments and then brushing it on wit a stiff paint brush?
@wituikbws
@wituikbws 4 жыл бұрын
I've never tried that. I usually just work it into the leather with friction, then take a horse hair brush and buff the excess off. Seems to work well enough for me. Anything would've been better than how dry these boots were getting though haha

Nicholas your choice of conditioner is good ,I've been using the Aussie now for years on all my knife sheaths and I ran some test a few years back on about 4 products . I was a toss up between Aussie and Sno - Seal . There is one thing I did figure out after some playing around us it liberally and with a air dryer to warm up the leather just a tad you can do it before and during and after application, I did this for 14 months out side and in the sun the whole time 24 -7. I personally I like the applying it then warming it up but I really laid in on with the sheaths there is zero problems with applying a lot but with boots your really need to be careful around the the seams to the sol they could let go after time I have seen that happen. just some thoughts from an old fart take stay safe .

@TheOtherBill 4 жыл бұрын
Nice timing, Mike, I was about to ask if this stuff was similar or the same as Sno-Seal. The wax-based conditioners do go on much easier and penetrate better when the leather is warm.
@mikeboone4425
@mikeboone4425 4 жыл бұрын
@@TheOtherBill As you probably already know the Aussie is much softer product but for me on my boots it's strictly Sno-Seal but for everything else it's Aussie I'm just afraid of the leather coming loss on the rubber to leather seams.

Hanwag recommends against using products that contain oil and grease on their boots. The oil and grease in Feibing's could cause rand delamination. Aussie Leather Conditioner is mostly petrolatum. Hanwag Shoe Wax is the product to use.

Please,does the spray that Hanwag recommends before you apply the wax, really improve the waterprofing and potentially, the life of the boot? Thanks in advance

I'm not sure about the spray; I didn't use any on my boots. As a leatherworker/cowboy, I come across a whole lot of leather. In my experience, wax conditioner works better than oil, and just about anything is better than dry leather. If you're worried about waterproofing, "Snoseal" does an excellent job at both waterproofing and keeping the leather suple/protected. If nothing else, just keep them conidtioned with a leather coniditioner like I used in this video, but make sure as with all leather care products that you don't use too much at once. Consistant light coats are all you need unless your leathers been dried out for years like my boots are in this video. I hope that helps, and just to clarify, I'm no expert. I just mess around with lots of leather, haha! Thanks for the comment 🤠

It increase its ability to shed water, and it stops the leather from drying and cracking. Its like oiling a blade to prevent rust.

More than that, this is Canada. Add another 200$ to that haha! The terrain here warrants this type of mountaineering/hunting boot cross. These were specifically purchased for mountain goat hunting in the rockies, but I use them for everything since they're such a good boot

Hi Mr, Is this method recommended for a new pair of leather boots?
@wituikbws
@wituikbws Жыл бұрын
As long as they are genuine leather, yes. I use this for just about everything from saddles to belts and knife sheaths. I would avoid it on any leathers like suede, rough-out, or anything upholstery like car seats. Thanks for the question!
