What a coincidence, you use the same two tools as when I'm about to leak.

there is more then just pressure loss going on with a boost leak, you should be worried about the AFR changes as well. under boost might not be that big of an issue as it will run more rich, but under vacuum it will be more lean and that is when you might see some knock. and if you run a newer car your ECU could detect that knock and potentially lower timing across the timing map depending on how bad it is. netting you a loss in power far greater then a portion of air that is filling a condom. good example, I had a leak on my 02 wrx and it caused my timing to lower 2 deg across the board due to the way Subaru knock correction works. that is a lot of power i lost because of a leak that really was only a issue under vacuum.

All jokes aside, the only flaw I can see with this test is you can see the condom is filled with air, Brett later stretches the air to the tip of the condom which would increase the pressure (just by a extremely small amount), whereas the garbage bag is not stretched to the same amount, so the pressure is not the same between the two which does affect the volume in a closed system. But even with this, Brett is still correct leakage ratio is extremely small and you shouldn't be too worried about losing efficiency as a turbocharging system effectively takes energy that normally goes to waste (your exhaust) and uses that to increase the volume of air inside the engine without having to increase the engine capacity

you cannot judge the bov on leaks if you don't apply boost on it's vacuum hose, cause when the car is on boost, that boost is pushing the BOV shut. right now its only the spring that is keeping it shut.

i had the opposite issue, the o-ring in the BOV was not leaking so I was leaking vacuum causing the car to run like pooo. and also during boost it was causing a big leak since it wasn't letting the BOV work right

the interesting figures would be when the system is at operating temp and not at room temp. i still agree on a similiar conclusion, but i'd like to see if the volume changes due to material expansion and movement. hell, even get the motor to do it iself.

The pressure is the same, but the increased volume and speed of air compressed by the turbo will make any leak you see in a boost leak test much worse. I've logged very noticeable differences in power from a leak like that, especially if the leak is before a MAF.

that's a very weird way to do a leak down test...if your supply tank has a psi reading can't you use that to determine the rate of loss

that covers boost leaks, but what about under vacuum, it could cause un-metered air to come into the intake and cause stumbling due to a lack of fuel, any easy way to test for that?
