Why cone area is king. The relationship between cone area and port volume to port area. The larger the cone the larger the enclosure and thusly the need for a larger port.

you should have every customer send you a demo video of every box so we can see the final look /setup & demo. empty boxes are great but boxes with subs in them performing to show the audience what we all have been trying to imagen. great boxes great work quality and aesthetics!

You can’t make customers send demo, all my customers on my channel still, they are the subscribers. If the boxes didn’t perform it would be said by now.

But how do know if you have enough Port area and volume is there a rule of thumb like a recommendated value for ratio of cone area to port area and one for port area to box volume I have a single 15" (1kw)in a 120L net (5,65cft) Box that has two 11,7cm (4,6") aeroports but I think the ports are a bit small considering the box size but if i made the ports bigger I think the sub would unload faster (with the current setup it only unloads below tuning when turning it 3/4 up) Is my box to big or are the ports to small

I like all of the videos from you which I have watched so far. I got a couple of questions 1-What is better - tune port to higher frequency or to a lower one than the fs? 2-if able to tune below the fs, how much lower, 5,10 or 15hz lower than fs? Keep up the amazing box building! Thanks.

I just sent mine back to down4sound. Something happened to the one I was using. I seen videos on here of guys having builds and it hit good lows. Mine was hitting good lows too and then it developed a rattle that I couldn't diagnose except as coil rub with too much excursion. So I said fuck it. Didn't have a good box anyway. Waiting for my store credit and am going to do a shallow sub build for my Convertible.

Honest option needed. One L5 12 in 2feet sealed or 2 L5 12’s in one foot sealed each. Running of same amount of power.
@abelscaliber79692 жыл бұрын
Why? You could just run 1 ported at 2.5 If you really want sealed you would be better off with 2 1cu ft sealed You would only gain a db or so down low in 2cu ft vs 1
@AlienRiff2 жыл бұрын
@@abelscaliber7969 I’ve had a L5 in a smaller box before and ultimately took made a 2 foot box for it. I cannot believe how much lower and flatter the response was in the new box. It allowed me to integrate it into my sound system very nicely. I’ve had ported and they are just a different animal. I think I made the right choice given I didn’t have to buy anything . For me it’s not only the amount of bass but the band of it and how flat it is. I might build another box and try it with two 12’s and see.

@@techwood262 if you really want good lows though, make SURE you have a vehicle where the cabin resonates with low notes. My previous vehicle was a little Chevy s-10, and the cabin resonates heavily at 33hz, but then dropped off by literally like 15db by the time it got down to 28hz, so everything below ~30hz was unlistenable, but just a little bit higher and it was loud AF on a single 12. The rule of 16 is bogus. You don't just take a box and slap a rule based on it's size. The driver is the determining factor. A Kicker Comp doesn't need near the same port atea as a RF Power series woofer of the same size. The excursion of the driver is the determining factor. The driver determines everything. Size of the box, needed port area and so on. When cookie cutter math is used, you end up disappointed in the size and or performance of the system. It is easily modeled in programs like Bassbox Pro. Also, building giant boxes makes it louder argument is also false. It makes it's peaks higher while diminishing overall performance over the subsonic spectrum. That's why you need to know what you are replicating first, then model driver and enclosure combinations to meet those needs. The next time you are surprised that a song that didn't seem to beat for you slams in another's system, you will find you are the victim of peaky enclosure design. That is why people who knock JL don't win SQ awards. If you like just being loud, go for whatever works. Math is your friend in either way and the stupid cookie cutter principal is still the wrong way to approach your build.

Since you seem to know a lot about this stuff how much Port area do two Sundown x18 need in a 14- cubic foot box because I've heard a few different things and I'm curious to what you say is the correct Port area for that box with those two subs
@JWarrenPhilly Жыл бұрын
@@manitobamanitoba1796 Need a few more details. What is the vehicle? What orientation will the subs be (walled off or up-firing as well as the port.) What is the target goal (really loud or really flat response?) Personally, I would avoid 18's due to the amount of enclosure they typically need to perform well at any level. I stick with more motors and smaller drivers which can achieve both output and fidelity for music.
