So in the casino business, we call those people that crowd you without playing “shoe-shiners”. Their hope is that if you win big, you’ll tip them because they provided you some extra luck. Most casinos have a love-hate relationship with them, because they are room fillers. The problem is that they are also leeching tips that could go to the staff instead. TL;DR: It’s para-social in reverse. They’re acting so that you’ll think they’re friendly or trustworthy so they can reach into your stack.

@@guspauline7460 Discount? Hol' up. I like Lud don't, get me wrong and I see where the comparisons are coming from. But discount? Only in the sense that Coney throws less money at his content. The difference is in personality, their nature and background. The more I think about describing it, the more I can imagine each of them doing everything the other has done but to say one has a discount content-product is discounting it as least offensively if not severely! That Coney vibe, you can't beat it. It's whatever came up that everyone is surprised is a good time. It's the something-out-of-nothing humour you get from turning bland WatchMojo into classic one-liners and rants with that real "had to be there" quality that only comes from the context of countless serendipitous occasions. The "wow" factor, I can't believe that was even possible? Ludwig got some good shit up there, always killing it, definitely fantastic content. But for the real "this sounds awful, oh wait actually I'm loving this"? Coney's my guy.

Casual commentary is honestly my favorite. I unfortunately don't remember which Evo this was at, but I remember watching an evo tournament where (I'm pretty sure it was a smash ultimate set), I think it was EE TK and Coney barely even talking about the game, but just sitting there talking and having a laugh, and it was genuinely the most fun I've had watching any competitive anything ever.

Ludwig's tournament was probably the best tournament I have watched in a while. The games weren't anything to special but the show just ran so well. Also can we give credit to Hbox. I'm not a big hbox fan but the guy made it to top 8 then went to commentate ultimates top 8 then came back to melee and placed 2nd. That's insane. Instead of practicing while ultimate was happening he commentated. Mad respect for that one. Also credit to Ludwig for commentating almost all of melee. The only problem I had with it was letting Hugs86 be a commentator. Hugs is a joke and a jisu simp.

Coney with the very very based take on commentary at LSI Honestly I thought the ultimate commentary was more focused than the melee commentary. The ultimate commentary very much matched summit, whereas the melee commentary was somehow, aside from top 8 before grands, ten times MORE casual and unfocused than summit. And I didn't like that they were literally having side discussions COMPLETELY unrelated to the match for entire games at a time. At least Coney shouting WAHOO was about the match going on in front of him. But for Coney to even say "he gets it" for people complaining about even the semi-casual level of Ultimate commentary about LSI (but that he just doesn't care): absolutely reasonable. As long as you understand our point of view, I don't mind at all that you don't care about our kvetching.

So that we can laugh about it, instead of shitting on Coney. So Coney's reaction on that (=getting frustrated about it) felt a bit weird.

*Ludwigs tourney was probably the best smash tourney of all time. And if he turned it into a once a year thing (once a year because realistically that sounds like the only way he'd be able to do it I'm sure it cost him hella money) it'd go on to be THE smash tournament everyone looks forward to, more than summit, and maybe eventually he'll open it up to the public people so there can be a bigger crowd spectating and more money can be made. Only thing people didn't like was the quad streaming, yea it makes sense but it wasn't fun to look at especially with no commentary or player cams so I'm sure next time there'll be more channels he can use to stream those at*
