As a Secaucus native and someone who lived there when Apex 2015 happened, this is actually insane. The parking garage collapsing was definitely an unfortunate event, but it was also a blessing in disguise. Sparked major changes to that area of the town that were seriously needed. And yes, that hotel is thankfully closed and it was long overdue when it finally happened.

My favorite Apex fire alarm conspiracy theory is that it was a wannabe good samaritan who realized that the hotel was in no state to hold the event and wanted to stop things and alert the authorities before something else happened. Maybe there's an alternate timeline where the hotel itself collapsed and killed 600 people; we'll never know.

If 5 years ago I told people that Nintendo would shut down a big house tournament for melee as well as canceling a splatoon match cuz there team supported melee they would laugh at me It’s actually insane how they got Nintendo to sponsor this after what happened in 2013 as well as what they’re doing now

when you say the yard do you mean ludwig/slime/nick/aimen’s podcast? if so you should watch the smash bros documentary if you haven’t. it’s on youtube and is very very entertaining as well as being a great introduction to the early melee scene.

I went to Apex 2013 and 2014 and had a fantastic time even though the events were run so badly. I passed on going to 2015 and I'm glad I did. From all accounts at the time it sounded like a nightmare.

I think Olympus might actually be a bit worse than this one because it literally didn’t even finish. Like it has to be the worst feeling ever to drive in from out of state, get to top 32 and then be told that it’s over. Apex was at least able to finish out and some hype sets were played.

I said this on the last video but I was on the floor that flooded and likely was the cause of the fire alarm getting tripped; What I heard both at the venue and later on was that someone hung up a towel on the sprinkler but I'd also 100% believe that it was caused by hotboxing. An obscene ganja smell permeated the whole hotel

Idk if you care but sprinkler systems don’t have smoke detectors in the sprinklers themselves. The fire marshal typically has to come to reset large alarms. So to say that the fire marshal pulled it or that the same person that pulled it had already contacted the fire marshal probably isn’t the case

Was actually APEX 2010 (maybe 2012 too but that one is alleged, 2010 was confirmed by the driver). First time International players were coming to play in tournament. IDK if they were trying to sneak pass VISA issues but yeah they rode in Uhaul trucks to their hotels.
