this was so funny because i had a couple online friends in this bracket, one of whom was gonna be on stream for the TMNT game none of them knew anything about the game, but one guy in our discord happened to play a ton of it in his childhood, so we all just spam pinged him asking for any advice possible my friend ended up picking splinter rabbid since coney and the crowd wanted to see him…going directly against the advice of our one friend who knew what he was talking about… yeah that was a fun experience LMFAO

As for next year, there are two Japan-only ones on GameCube and PS2 that both play more like coin battle than traditional Smash: DreamMix TV World Fighters (with characters like Bomberman, a Moai head, Optimus Prime, and the guy from Beyblade) and Battle Stadium D.O.N. (with characters from Dragon Ball, One Piece, and Naruto). They're pretty fun

As a cultured individual I'm sure you've heard of Viewtiful Joe, but did you know it has its own platform fighter called Viewtiful Joe: Red Hot Rumble? It's honestly closest to coin battle from Melee and if you want a game to cull people in bracket you can run it as a FFA winner moves on losers eat shit. Not sure if it'd work in a 1v1 format, been a long time since I've played it.

Digimon Rumble Arena 2 should absolutely be at next year's mystery platform fighter tournament

Theres a game on the ds called "Jump ultimate stars", a shonen jump "platfighter" where you can play as almost every shonen jump character, but it has a deck builder as a manga panel so basically you need to have certain builds. Characters can go crazy such as light yagami instantly killing someone, kurapica from hunterxhunter sealing a players special moves, etc. There IS a tier list, but all I know is Dio jojo is the best because hes a vampire thus he heals over time and with the right deck, he can stall the timer out

Big recommendation for a POWERSTONE-style fighter: One Piece Grand Battle. It’s a licensed powerstone clone that has decent combat, assists, supers, movement, etc. The sequel gets rid of the “secret” attack gimmick where you use 2 bars but can potentially Instakill if you are behind by enough & bloats the roster w/ clones. Either way, it’s a blast.

I got a jank suggestion. Xena Warrior Princess - Talisman of Fate for the N64. Made by the studio that brought you Superman 64, it is an arena fighter that is full of obtuse moves, small health bars, scummy pixelated representation of actors, and up to 4 player support. Julius Ceasar is in the game, and has a move that does .0001 amount of damage but knocks everyone to the ground. The meta is projectiles- such as hooks, knives, boots, the iconic circle thing, and Lucky Charms cereal that are not obvious to figure out. Its more jank than anything but i could see it being a fun time. Proton Jon has some highlight vods of him messing around with Joxer to give you a good idea of the game.

there was this game called flat form fighter at the indie games section of smash con and it was really cool. it had this minimalist pixelated & black/white aesthetic and i think it would be a good inclusion for another tournament.

You may try to add a Smash fan game in the form of Super Smash Flash 2 or Super Smash Bros Crusade. Most likely won't happen but I wish to see big tournaments of those two Smash fan games

Watching the Fraymakers Workshop-only round in this, next year I'd like to suggest CMC+, a Smash Crusade standalone mod designed to be that fan game's PMEX Remix analogue in terms of rounding up a bit-too-big collection of its modding scene, resulting in an utterly unhinged roster and presentation

This is so cool, the concept is amazing, I love it a lot! If you want suggestions, I don't know if that really counts as a fighter but Super Mario War on the main stage would be super hype. Amazing fangame that I'm sad that it faded into obscurity because it's so good!!

Some game recommendations I can think of are Punchtime Explosion, The Ku-Fu Panda game, & that one Japanese one with the Bayblade kid, solid snake, and I think Optimus Prime.

Also, there is a platfighter very similar to Outfoxies called Superfighters Deluxe, it's pretty good and funny, I think it would be cool to see it on the next tournament, the only problem is that the controls are complicated

Basically Mario and Luigi have to gather stars and can kill each other by jumping on each others head. Its super simple but contains a ton of stragety. Superfighters Deluxe seems somewhat inspired by Outfoxies! Maybe it can be in the next year's tournament, it doesn't seem to be too well known.

You have a great event in the making. Such a fun and engaging concept. Keep it up! There’s a Billy and Mandy/Tom and Jerry Platform Fighter. Would be so hype especially that Tom and Jerry one. Also would be cool to mix in 1-2 traditional fighting games like Soul Caliber, Killer Instinct, and those ones.

Sonic Battle for GBA could be pretty funny for next year

2 games that I MUST recommend for this sort of thing have to be Rounds by Landfall Games (a deckbuilder platform fighter where you effectively build your character as you go) and Your Only Move Is Hustle (a platform fighter where you take turns putting in inputs on every actionable frame, effectively making a tas battle that plays back in real time afterward)

Chaos faction 2 would go kinda hard for the next one but it's a flash game with a lot of unlockables so the logistics might be tough

if you ever do this again PLEASE look into a game called STARWHAL, a game where up to 4 players play as narwhals in a giant bubble in space with a heart on their stomach, the goal being to flop around eachother in zero gravity to hit your opponents heart with your own horn to deal damage, while avoiding your opponents horn yourself. its lots of fun and goofy enough to fit this kind of thing perfectly

footsies is a classic, would be a good culling game for next year's tournament
