That is probably the best explanation on Newman Projections ever. I understood the subject in less than 15 minutes otherwise I'd probably spent at least 2-3 hrs to understand whats going on. Big thanks as always Prof. Dave!

@@ProfessorDaveExplains i know it its is used in astronomy we can measure distances between stars, its the arc length and application of trignometry . I googled it when i was in 9 class because it was the weirdest unit of distance i ever heard. do you have a chart of your channel or syllabus or study map or something so that i can see whats in what videows or playlists. if not i would still make use of video labels , even though it may take some time

Thank you ever so much, Dave. This helped tremendously. My professor has his work cut out for him, teaching an 8 week, accelerated ochem course, but he still does a pretty terrible job each lecture. At least I know I can come home and check out one of your videos and not feel so lost!

Shouldn't the first carbon represent the dot on your drawing, and not the circle? I am referring to the carbon that we are looking at, and you begin to draw at 11:40.

Your channel is just fantastic! Thank you for everything you offer to us! I have a question regarding the Newman projections. I have read that the front carbon is represented through a central dot and that the circle is representing the back carbon. Is this simply another way to interpret, to imagine, to depict the Newman projection or is one of the theories wrong?

No, the back carbon is obscured from view. It makes no sense to treat one carbon as a point and the other as a circle.

Well said. Should have mentioned stability between these conformations that eclipsed arrangements due to their higher energy they are unstable compared to staggered conformations (anti conformation and gauche conformation).
