Cyclohexane makes weird shapes! The most important is the chair conformation. Here we will learn how to draw cyclohexane chairs, how to flip them, the difference in energy between the two chair conformations, and between axial and equatorial substituents. Chairs are easy place to lose points on exams if you don't draw them just right!

Hi Dave! Loved the way you explained them! Can I classify the conformations with their responding strains as followings? Staggered = no torsional strains Anti = No Strains Gauche = Steric Strains Eclipsed = Torsional Strains
@ProfessorDaveExplains
@ProfessorDaveExplains 9 жыл бұрын
+Milton Chow hmm, I've never really thought of it that way, but i suppose it makes sense. however, let's just say that anti involves the least possible amount of steric hindrance, though not necessarily zero.

actually equatorial and axial positions can tell u if they are cis or trans it is- for 1,2 carbon axial and equatorial will be cis to one another for 1,3 carbons axis and equatorial will be trans and for 1,4 axial and equatorial will be cis if at 1,2 carbon both hydrogens are equatorial/axial it would be trans relation if at 1,3 carbon both hydrogen are equ/axial it will be cis

I have a doubt. In a question that I came across it was about total products from monochlorination of methyl cyclohexane..they had treated the 1,4 position of ch3 and cl as having an isomer so it resulted in two products from that conformation..I'm now really confused as to why it had an isomer even though there was no chiral carbon. I hope you see this😭
