Thanks for this video! My grandfather served in the 457th at RAF Glatton. Ten years ago, I made my pilgrimage from the U.S. to visit here. When I went into the main building at what is now Peterborough Business Airport, an incredibly kind employee saw me browsing the pictures on the wall and brought several boxes out of storage filled with pictures of aircraft, unidentified service members, and other artifacts. I made the walk from the airfield to Conington and peeked into the beautiful All Saints Church. I can’t imagine how many air crews strained to see the church’s four spires as they returned from missions in B-17s torn to shreds and with crew members dead or injured.

Lovely church at Conington, rang a 3 hour peal on the bells there in 2020 just before the Covid lock down.

My father Fred C. Leggett of Macon GA flew all his missions successfully returning to the air field at Glatton. I hope to visit soon.

Enjoyed watching this, recently found my grandfather who served in the 749th squadron. I have walked around there few times since, me and the wife love going to the Admiral arms next to the crossing of death. When you was trying to get into the churchyard if you carried on little further there is a gate that you go through so no need to jump 3 fences lol

Great video, enjoyed. I have worked in the area for many years and learnt a lot. The church at Conington is accessible through the gates to Conington House. You can also go inside the church if you get the key from someone in the village. Their address is on the sign for the church.

My brother designed the village sign with the B17 flying over the church 👌 was a competition when we were kids and my brothers was picked 👌

If you go there again, go into the flying club and have a look at all the pictures. Have a cup of tea and a bun too. But just recently, a street painter from London painted a huge B17 together with it's crew in black and white on the side of the hangar. It really is fantastic and worth going there just to see it!! I own an aeroplane that's in the hangar and I've been flying from the 28/10 runway for many years. As I've flown my own plane off that runway, I've often thought of the B17 crews thundering down that very same runway many years ago, on the way to their targets. It's so tragic that so many of those very brave men never came back again😞.

I lived in that house by the Brooke in Holme in the early 80’s. Absolutely fascinating video. Thank you very much for taking the time to make it. I had no idea the airfield was so large.

If you'd have carried on to the top of field in Holme there is a stile and footpath to walk round Holmewood and with lots of existing buildings, foundations and other bits all for site H. I was shouting at the screen telling you to go in the woods! We live at Vicarage close in Holme and regularly walk the dog through there
