So, the new consoles can output up to 120 Hz. This can be set manually on the Xbox Series X, but not so much on the PS5. However, many monitors that support higher refresh rates only support those refresh rates on the DisplayPort inputs, such as my Samsung Odyssey G9, and have a cap of 60 Hz on the HDMI input. The adapter in this video allows you to connect your HDMI output from your console to a DisplayPort input on your monitor, allowing you to take full advantage of your monitor refresh rates. Great video! Straight to the point and still with intro/outro under 3 minutes. Also gave some very useful ""trivia"" about HDMI not always delivering the best possible resolution and frame rate -which helped me with another issue I was just facing. Keep it up

THANK YOU. Ive tried three different adapters at this point, after being told by the folks at BestBuy and Staples that these would work for sure no problem even though they say displayport to hdmi and not hdmi to display port.

Yeah.. the cables are pretty much all directional.. only from DisplayPort to HDMI, and not the other way. A good handful of people have reported black screen issues with the device. Amazon makes returns/refunds easy though, so it’s kind of risk free to see if it works for your setup. Thank you!

The adapter in the video is HDMI to DisplayPort. Cables with DisplayPort on one end and HDMI on the other are directional from DisplayPort to HDMI… two separate things, and both are true.

i picked up the adapter after having no luck with the adapter i bought from best buy. after a bit of fiddling i was able to get my dell u2711 to accept a display port signal from the xbox one x. thanks for the great tip!

Thank you! I appreciate it! With PS5, it works for some games. For instance, CoD Cold War wouldn’t let me select 120Hz (even though it’s supported), but Fortnite did… and I verified in the video output settings that it was outputting 120Hz after changing the setting in Fortnite.

For anyone wondering I think this will only work if you have either a PC to switch the refresh rate or if the monitor OS will allow you to do it. You can see in the video his OS allows him to change the the refresh rate directly on his monitor. If you can’t do one of those two things your series X/S and or PS5 won’t auto switch. You have to manually change it to 120+

DocValentino, thanks for the video. I would like to add that what you're looking for is an "HDMI to DisplayPort" adapter. Cords and adapters are not always bi-directional, so don't pick 'DisplayPort to HDMI'. Next watch for old DisplayPort 1.2 adapters as they will give you issues. Instead look for 1.4 or better yet 2.0. The G9 only needs a DP 1.4 but 2.0 is backwards compatible. Last, I've contacted both Microsoft and Samsung to confirm and they were both useless. KZfaq and Reddit, FTW.

just an fyi you won't get 240 hz on a console. It will say 240 on your monitor but will actually only be at 120 because that's all the ps5 and xbox series s/x can do.

I connect the normal hdmi cable (the one with ps5) to my msi 2k 165hz gaming monitor and in ps5 settings i use performance mode- i get 120fps on my monitor.(it's only supported in few games) I guess this is after the update.

Hello, thank you so much for your help! I have the odyssey ultra wide monitor. I got it at Costco I want to connect my Xbox and my apple MacBook Eyre. I’m just trying to figure out which one I should use the HDMI input for and watch what I should use the display port for? Thank you so much for your help! Right now I have been switching back-and-forth my HDMI cable every time lol I really need to have both connected. I found a KZfaq video a while back that had a great cable recommendation and I should’ve got it back then and I never did. Question, I've got the Lenovo Legion Pro 5 Laptop Rtx 3070. Now I want to get the Samsung Odyssey G5 LC34G55TWWPXEN 34" 3440*1440p 165Hz monitor. The laptop only had HDMI ports. Which cable should I get to connect the laptop with the monitor to get it's best performance. To be able to get the most out of both. I want to be able to play Ultra HD on at least 144Hz. Would a 2.1 hdmi do. Or should I buy a 1.4 DP with a Hdmi to DP connection?

I just got same display as you. Using it for an external laptop display, legion i7 pro. The G9 refresh amongst other features are locked. I dont have a display port on laptop. Do you think an adapter like in your video will solve it?

Will it still display 4k aswell? Along with the 160hz? Because I’m using a hdmi, Xbox to monitor and it displays 4k but only 60hz, buying this will solve that doc?

The 1440p resolution of ps5 does not support the vrr, if sony were to integrate the vrr even for the 1440p and doing your processes the vrr could be used? I have 2k monitor whit hdmi2.0 and Dp 1.4! Thanks!

So I have Astro a40s with a mix amp I had to buy the hdmi adapter for the mix amp to work. If I buy the display port adapter for my monitor will my mix amp still work

So you have to use that adapter because your monitor doesn’t have HDMI 2.1 correct? I’m about to get the LG27GR95QE so I shouldn’t have that issue, but I currently use the 2020 Odyssy G7 1440p 240hz VA. I’m pretty sure it has HDMI 2.0 also, I’ve never put that together when my series x is in it this kinda blew my mind. I’m gonna buy this adapter and test that anyway lol

I just switch to a fibre optic hdmi cable and you can use all that adaptive sync and stuff if you use a hdmi 2.1 cable bro I'm currently using an aoc 155hz adaptive sync monitor

I have got to ask I’ve set this up (adapter into ps5, DP into monitor and adapter) my acer predator xb271hu is capable of 165hz. However my ps5 is still only letting me be at 60hz, please help I don’t know if I’ve done something wrong

i need help man i got a ps5 not soo long ago and i have 1080p 144 hz monitor which was mainly for my pc but i wanna use it for the ps5 but i cant get 120 fps for some reason i think its because the hdmi hole doesnt support more than 60 fps but i was using a display port for my pc and it was getting 144hz just fine but the ps5 doesn’t have a display port hole so what do i do?

there are cables online with one end display port and the other end hdmi. do they work ? or do u need this converter

What console are you using? On PS5, you have to set the console to performance mode on settings before you can set the game to 120Hz in the in game settings I believe.
