Copper crimps and waterproof gel covers are, to me, the key to a long lasting system. Copper oxidizes quickly whether exposed to air, dirt or moisture. The crimp not only helps the mechanical connection from coming undone, but ensures conductivity as the exterior copper strands eventually oxidize.

After watching a handful of these how to wire outdoor lighting videos I’ve come to the conclusion none of these guys have friends that could simply hold the camera freeing you up to show us simply how to do this. And get close enough so we can see what you’re doing.

Hi, been watching your vids, and want to try installing myself. So i got the volt brand from costco, i got 6 spot lights and 6 pathway lights. So can i daisy chain the whole thing? About 80 ft. So pretty much use the main wire from the transformer and connect all the lights to it? would the 14g wire be fine? I see you recommend the 12g. Also, the transformer only gets 2 wires connected to it? the comm port and the 12g port? Thers also the hubs for the wires, would it be better to daisy chain instead of using the hubs? Thanks!

I cut into wire trying to seperate the the two side in the middle of the flower beds trying to add new lights that require an attachment on both sides. Copper is exposed! Jhp

I've been binge watching your videos! Hopefully you can help me with this question. Do you charge for the lighting kits before or after you install? Or do you ask for an upfront deposit to buy the kits then charge for the installation? Thanks in advance!

I've re-done my landscape lights 5x in 10 years, with the pokey non-sealed connectors. Always have problems, but the yard has been changing so much it hasn't really mattered. However, finally think things are final and I got all my lights in place, (12g wire, 40 lights, 5w each, 25 yard run from the transformer to the main split, about 80 yards total run, 300w transformer) everything looked great...then it rained. Everything flickered and turned off (comes on and off) I was disheartened. Now I am watching your videos about how to run these properly and my question is, if I run the lights this way I will be cutting and splicing the wire for every light. In this scenario the wire will be cut about 20x total, but crimped and sealed instead of poked. Is that too much cutting? Am I trying to run too much off of one cable-run? Also do I need to seal the end of the cable, if so with what? Thanks!

Adam, I don't want to get off topic, but this is the only way I know to message you. Last year you said you were ordering a Wilton Trenching Spade and you would do a review video once you received. I've been watching and hoping for that video for months. Did you ever order or receive your Trenching Spade? If so, are you planning on doing a review video of it in the near future?

Your intro appears to include bistro lights on a fence. I have been trying to find a good quality set of 12v bistro lights to connect to my low voltage system. Any thoughts?

Hey Mike, there are only 2 companies that sell 12v bistro lights and they are glass (AKA not shatter proof). I don't think as a consumer you have access to either company. I personally would just use the high voltage bistro lights and hook them up to the same smart plug your lights are on.

What’s the easiest way to hide wires when crossing sidewalks or driveways

Poly sand if grinding out joints looks good. Also you can bore underneath sidewalks with a 6 foot flexible wood bit in most cases to cross wires without being seen.

Can you splice two main runs together just using the waterproof connectors? Meaning, 1 main run from the transformer that branches into 2 branches for 2 rows of lights

Yes . Like a Y. Just don’t connect 2 powered runs together . If you have any questions reply to my comment and I can help . Landscape lighting is my job now and I’m starting my own company. I’d be happy to help. Get fx luminaire fixtures if you can afford them.

Basically you can connect all the lights together and then inject the power anywhere on the run with a wire going from the transformer.

Everything I’m reading is trashing the daisy chain method, but what I can’t tell is if they’re saying bad voltage distribution reduces the life of just the bulb or actually the whole lamp. If daisy chaining makes me have to replace a $10 bulb in 7 years instead of 10 years, I don’t care about that. And daisy chaining is the easiest way in my mind

@@kylesavage879 yeah there wrong… it’s fine . I know what videos your talking about . Daisy chaining is the best . These old heads stuck in the 90s and with led it doesn’t matter. Unless you have a giant yard . If it’s over a half acre you might just wanna inject the 12 gauge runs with 10 gauge in middle . 10 gauge from the transformer and connect all the lights together with 12 gauge and tie the 10 gauge into the 12 half way down the run.

@@bobufo5729 thanks brother! Good to know. Thankfully I have a small project (front yard only, 12-13 lights, less than 50 watts total). Any problems if I get the Volt 100W slim line transformer that only has a 15v tap? Transformer will probably be 50+ ft away from the first light

I wish you would do some kind of a review of flagpole lighting from the ground, not the lighting on top

A flag pole light often needs to be a par 36 in-ground well light. I would use a 15degree and install 3 lights in a triangle shape to catch all angles of the flag. I should make a video of this, I'll put it on my list.

So in short, take *one* wire from each *pair* and join them all together. Then take the *remaining* wires from all the pairs and join them all together.

Exactly! Short and sweet. I've tried explaining it that way, and have been told by many people that it was still supper confusing. But yes, that's exactly right.

I’m interested in installing my own system, but willing to pay for 20+ year reliability and quality. Is it possible to source the really high end of the market equipment for those wanting to install themselves? Your online course doesn’t specify whether you detail this? I don’t want to pay for your course if it’s going to suggest I use Volt lighting. & yes I understand most who are willing to spend $300 per light just pay installers & don’t want to do the work themselves, but I’m not typical

I've been down the same road as you, Ed. I did end up using Volt lighting products after much research for the longest-lasting, best quality for the dollar fixture. I've only blown one Volt LED bulb for which I don't fault the fixture.

The best fixtures are fx luminaire. They can be expensive .
