"You won't get better if you try to keep up with the traffic in front" is probably the best advice I got from this video. Heck, it's not even for driving only, I'm pretty sure that's advice that applies to anything in life. But you made me realize how many mistakes I've been making because I panic when I see the cars in front of me act much more proficient than me... but of course that will happen, I'm still learning and they are not. It's so obvious, but it's so easy to fall for that trap. Thank you.
@ConquerDriving
@ConquerDriving 3 жыл бұрын
Many people do fall into the trap. Is the same for most things in life, example if you try to learn tennis by serving as fast as a professional you won't make a successful serve and be able to continue a rally to get practice hitting the ball. I was concerned when I saw a tennis teacher teaching a young boy how to play on Saturday, the teacher kept firing balls at him quickly and the poor kid had no chance to return any of them, in fact I saw him have to duck for 1 to avoid being hit in the head. The kid would have learnt more if the teacher would have sent him balls at a speed that he could successfully return them at. That way the boy would have had lots of practice making racquet to ball contact building up his skill of how to hit the ball.

For me, it actually helped me learn. I was trying to figure out how people were so fast. So I watched these videos, and I've almost fully mastered rev matching upshift and downshift. Also the fastest take off is getting easier for me: gas down to 1.5k rev and then bite point, more gas, clutch further up, more gas until you can let go and floor it for a second. It's not that hard really once you got the hang of it. I drive both a diesel and a petrol: Yes diesel is easier, but a modern petrol with a turbo is almost as good at low revs as a diesel, so the difference is almost negligible

Keeping the toe pointed is important. On a vehicle with a heavy spring or a tough friction point I drag my heel against the carpet as I slide my foot back, while keeping my tow pointed.. It adds enough friction to give better control. I don't do this all the time it will wear out the carpet lol .but it helps in certain situations especially when driving something new to me.

I have been driving and learning in traffic only stalled occasionly. I was a wreck when I first stalled but now I almost stay calm. Its literally experience. Thats the important thing when stalling to put handbrake on select neutral, turn back on select 1st get bite dont worry about traffic around you or other drivers concentrate on being safe, so what if the car in front speeds off? These videos have helped me massively like other videos. We have lots of hills around us with tight bends so I have no choice to creep forward, go slow, stop etc. You get used to it. It does help as when you come across them elsewhere you are more used to it. I think its important to give more revs than flat so stalling is less likely and not to get close to car in front. I found its hard to juggle feet if not using handbrake in traffic uphill. I have learnt to slow gradually and look further in front so you sort of roll forward barely using revs and many traffic situations sort themselves and you keep moving but obviously you sometimes have to stop. Its not a bad thing to go slower as the traffic may move and sort itself out without having to stop 👍 i stalled at roundabouts but obviously I wasnt giving it enough revs, but I was learning to look at traffic on roundabout (only a local small one) and was concentrating on other aspects, its hard to get everything into your head at once, it takes time, but it all comes together eventually

It was hard to get every single detail a new learner needed from people when it now comes naturally to them. Needless to say, I stalled coming into the pits and got into a cycle where I couldn't get it going again and had to be pushed to my pit... talk about embarrassing. I've been driving a manual for almost a week now and wouldn't have been able to do it without your videos. I've noticed after a few days of driving when there's no car behind me on a hill I do the handbrake starts perfectly smoothly. The moment there's a car behind me I end up panicking with the acceleration out of fear of rolling back and I either release the hand brake late or peel off too quick and get a jerky start or the car skids off. The advice of taking everything in your own time and not worrying about trying to keep up with traffic is great

Excellent video. Great learning experience. All those, supposedly wrong, things I used to survive traffic in Indian metropolis with bad roads and hills - they appear in your video, and then some more new things. Its a real pleasure to watch it.

I hope my next practice goes more smoothly & I don’t stall as much. My handbrake doesn’t work tho so I have a hard time going up a hill but I’ll find a way to make it work. Thank you tho, you explain things very nicely☺️

Been learning on and off since I was 17 and now I'm 34... it's about time I passed and stopped putting it off since I failed my first test a few years back. I failed my test by rolling back in traffic and the tester had to break for me...otherwise I'd have passed :'( But now *I* actually want to learn, not just because others say so... I'm trying my hardest to brush up and remember the basics... driving in traffic and stopping at junctions and roundabouts is hard without having to concentrate on 50 other things at the same time. I think the best thing you've mentioned so far is to take your time. Rushing just makes you more anxious and I hope I can learn from my past mistakes :D Thanks for the videos. I'm sure I'll be watching many more in the coming weeks!!!!
@ConquerDriving
@ConquerDriving 2 жыл бұрын
The key is to focus on one thing at a time. Generally that's where you can go and where you can wait. If you're still learning car control then it's best to be away from traffic where you can focus on the car.

Thank you for helping me learn driving thousands of miles away from you in India 😊....Yes it's true that watching videos will not make me a better driver, but loads of practice will....but at the same time watching such videos have been immensely helpful when I sit on the driver seat and apply the techniques I learnt from the videos. I only wish my trainer had 10% of your eagerness to teach, patience with the learners and general enthusiasm about sharing knowledge. In my case(and in most the cases), trainer is just there to sit besides you... explain the basic controls and you are literally expected to learn driving on your own! Trainer is there to apply brakes in case needed...and to get irritated with learner's mistakes! If you want to know about how to judge the left of your car...why exactly you push certain combination of pedals in certain conditions...how to safely manouver in traffic...the standard response is: You will learn with practice. Of course I will learn with practice! But I am a firm believer of getting your basics right... learning the safe and efficient techniques.. practicing those and making a habit, rather than figuring out the working of machine myself with 'practice'. In this regard, your videos have been immensely helpful! You are helping people become better drivers and the roads a safer place...THANK YOU!

I hope you get a chance to read my comment! Thank you for your work and sharing detailed videos when it comes to driving a manual safely. I recently purchased a manual vehicle with minimal experience and your videos have definitely helped me in becoming proficient in driving a stick. I’m a visual and hands on learner so combining with driving and watching your videos (obviously not at the same time lol) helped my mind connect the steps and muscle memory. Thank you again! I will always recommend your page to my mates who are interested in learning shift. Tomorrow I’ll be driving to work using my car and not my sister for I now feel confident. Cheers from USA 💛
