​@@michaelweston409 yes my friend. Byzantine empire was an example. They used the "liquid fire" (υγρό πυρ) at naval battles.

They are certainly pretty damaging! I to have fallen victim when they are hiding and I haven't spotted them until it is to late

because the game needed more CC to CC chain from 100%- dead with no counterplay.

Good point about the arbalists they certainly can be countered and if they get caught in the open they die super fast, its more just the speed they can put out such high damage that makes them quite a decent unit at the moment

Yes but how many people bring arbalist to TW and anyway into sieges, and other point is that you wont bring those guys with just one shield wall you can but they are used different and that is in caotic situations where noone sees them because they are wide spread on f1 and they wont die instantly of anything and trust me even 2 of those can kill 50+ units in just couple seconds. It is one of those units that if left alone is useless and if used well they are too OP. But other thing that makes them so powerfull is that they are soo fast you can bring them from behind the walls in seconds and start a fire and than evrything is over.

@@Joske0000 it doesnt need to be arbalist, sargeant javelineers works too with 90% block break but in chaotic situations both mentioned units are safe because they wouldnt be close range so a lot of allied units would die but the flamethrowers would still get killed at first sight by javs or arbalists.

Namkans can be devastating since they shoot so many bleed arrows, just one will do significant damage to a model.

They certainly suffer badly when they get hit by arrows :-D

I don’t think the longbows could have gotten a good angle in the gatehouse unless they were fairly close to the frontline. Same with the top of the gatehouse.

@@tonyli8368 If there are flamethrowers in the gatehouse, just dont go there. He got 136 mostly lemmings. As for anywhere else, longbowmen can make arrows come down from really unusual angles doe to their range, and their 1 ability almost makes them fire homers instead of dumb arrows. There are only 7 models and they are made of tin (FLAMMABLE tin at that!), you just have to remember to manually aim your range so it hits them and not the ISGs in front of them.

To some extent yes that may well be true, could burn them whilst they are covered in sheilds!

Dont mind it tbh.... heroes are waaaay to OP (especially mauls) and the game needed something to stop them dominating as much!

The stun can be brutal, i'm kind of 50/50 heroes can be quite powerful so i don't mind a bit of stun but equally it maybe a little to long you get trapped for whilst burning

Get pike militia ASAP. Amazing unit, especially when upgraded, and they are only a 2-star unit. Look at the team on this vid - flamethrower guys, stalwarts, martellori (despite only being half-star, they are actually the rarest and most expensive unit ingame, so forget about these for a few years), and yes, pike militia. Also get the demon spearmen (chivalric tree), they are an OK unit but they are the stepping stone to spear sergeants, a purple unit that sits in the blue tree (making them a lot cheaper than any other purple unit), which is also a very good unit and arguably the best unit ingame when playing vs AI - especially when upgraded to stalwarts.

Look to trade your units against higher level ones. In terms of leadership your team cones out on top.

Firsth go for pike milita and then turn your way to spear sargents and rush to monastic knights after that go for hussars, and on your way unlock seson 3 units firsth condotieri and fortebracios after that go for season 2 namkham archers than on season 4 janissaires and that is good start.

Some good tips from others here, pike militia great starting unit the heros journey quests will give you a free t3, t4 and t5 unit which will give you a good start to your career :)

@@EvoLozGaming yeah i forget that i bought them and they are hard to grind so it is not like evryone is heaving them now, not to say that they are far from max. Mine are level 29 and one more to max hp is belove 5000 without doctrine.

Yeah i frikin hate players who dont push siege equipment because their units are gonna die. So we only attack at one or two spots smh🤦🏼‍♂️ and they dont push with me either they wait and dont push any siege

Yeah The bottom damage is good and all but for me I dislike the slow deployment of the ground aoe burn I much prefer just pressing 1 and burning everything around, seems to have plenty of damage along that line

interesting thought at def stats, I suspect falco are stronger but would make for an interesting test. Yeah was quite painful having to use some unit xp cards when I worry i'm going to be stuck with those 50k exp cards XD

Makes sense from a historical point of view just a rather strong unit from a gameplay point of view

Yeah they are certainly very vulnerable when they get caught out in the open, it's just when they get covered by a shield in a chokepoint they tend to do very well

The Byzantines actually fielded several varieties of flamethrowers Including this kind. Mostly though they were either much larger versions mounted on ships or siege towers. While uncommon they were known to field troops wielding a "Cheirosiphon" in groups of 100. Though they only had a range of about 4-10 ft (1.2-3 meters) If they are to be believed the enemy would often break before ever hitting the front lines

It is a tough unit to balance, I guess as players get more used to the unit it'll be countered more easily but as you say still quite a fun unit :-)

They sort of do yes but remember range is extremely short so have to be very spot on with the timing you fire the flames

Well I used the Demanse Spearman and we use shield walls..... no matter what we got blow away by flame and killed instantly

I have so far played 40 games with them and in each one a long bow hero one shots them with an explosive arrow through shields or a musket as well as artillery, archers and even suicidal melee heroes kill them in seconds leading to only 50 or 60 kills with them if your lucky. You will see when you get them.

They certainly can be very powerful in the right situations!

They are very micromanage intense. You won’t be able to just plop them down in big fights. And heroes will always be trying to get at them.

@@shooter2224 that’s what chokepoints are for though.... it’s not meant to be easy to break through if the defenders use the right units. The flame throwers are excellent at taking out enemies from one direction, but fail at multiple attacks from all around due to their limited amount of men. They are like fortebraccios, with the right support and environment, you can dominate any melee fight. Get caught out and your unit will be annihilated. Also it’s not a bad thing when players work together to maximize their unit’s effectiveness. I don’t understand why stalwart + flamethrower combo is seen as broken. Teamwork should never be considered an op tactic.

@@shooter2224 in fact I have a hard time getting the perfect scenario like that, because the enemy always comes from multiple directions and not the one I want them to. Also, the unit automatically shoots flames, before they get in range of the abilities, so you lose the element of surprise. Once they see it, they won’t come back. Without their abilities, their fire rate is quite slow and sparse, so multiple heroes can easily overwhelm a unit of stalwarts and flamethrowers. The fire damage is great, but their real value is their hero stun capabilities, and I can see this getting nerfed. As players get used to them, they will slowly become less of a threat. Similar to how fortebraccios became less of a threat.

They have a small hand axe for melee, if it comes to that things have gone badly XD

Short Sword is a tank class so if you like killing other heroes I wouldn't recommend playing this class as it's best quality is absorbing damage, Spear is one of the best class in the game for fighting other heroes, it's really strong.
