In this video, I ride my Ariel Rider X-Class e-bike and talk about what a person should know before upgrading their motors, batteries and controllers for more speed. Those 3,000 and 5,000 watt kits are super fun, but might not be worth the upgrade depending on who you are.

Hey Raspy, question, do you think it would be possible to upgrade a scooter from a 60v to a 72v system? If so, how? I'm asking alot with a simple question i know, but even if you could steer me in the right direction I'd be eternally grateful, I've got a K8 and I love it, but can feel it can be more, its got a cheap controller that cuts out regularly while I'm at high speeds, its only for a split second but the high speed jolts have gotta go, im worried their gonna cause an accident eventually, i know upgrading to a 72v system will come with the opportunity to shop for a decent syne wave controller to cut out this issue, I'm technically inclined but need thorough, reliable information to work with to have any chance at success

@@Raspyrides the batteries are all in the floor in a flat rectangular formation to fill out the base of the deck, most 72v systems I see seem built for Surron and Talaria type epvs so that box shape is kinda a hurdle unless I built it in separate somewhere on top of the deck, I have a bike rake mounted to the seat post but need it for storage and those batteries are super heavy and would eventually collapse it, I'm thinking maybe something on the rear kickplate as a possible stable and sturdy mounting point for an additional battery and case for it, the only thing I can think of to make full use of both is to keep the front motor connected to the internal battery but rerouted to think it's the rear, set as an additional trigger for a front boost when I need it, with the new controller separate but directly over the old one so the 72v controller would act as a primary rear throttle, sound at least semi-feasible?

@@mythoti is it possible to just not use the front motor and install an extremely powerful rear? When it comes to e-bikes, it tend to prefer a powerful rear hub compared to dual motor bikes. It also makes the building process a lot more simple lol

My normal monthly maintenance cost on just 2 e-bikes is $30 - $400 depending on what breaks next... and there's always something that breaks. I ended up selling my car to go all in on e-bike and ended up paying almost the same many months.

Hi just a thought on your handle bars , I fitted motorbike straight handle bars as your type over time may put strand on your wrist behind at a angle instead of straight. PS yes more power does put extra wear on brakes and also bikes are made to travel at lower speeds any extra support ie locking nuts and brackets to take the strand will help. I've got a 1500 bike conversion kit and down hill reach 53.6 mph in the UK. 😊

Depends if they are in need to make money for that day! The biggest problems that happen over the concern of ebikes is reckless driving! And reckless driving is also being done on ebikes that can only do 28 mph! We now are dealing with young kids showing off drawing attention and pissing off people! Geofencing is here and the goal is to get it in full swing! What geofencing does is communicate with your Ebike and will set the speed for you! You want to go fast it isn't happening! You drive where a Ebike is not allowed it will not operate in those areas. And if you think you are going to not get caught and operate without it the system will know and you will have to pay a fine and possibly get your bike taken. Sorry to say but we wouldn't need this A.I technology if the responsibility was there but it's just not going to be with these young kids getting their hands on ebikes. Parents should also have to be held accountable as well. Geofencing and new laws is here and definitely will change the game.

Or you can avoid all these problems by buying a higher quality ebike to begin with that is already built, I recommend looking at the Ristretto 512 model, it's priced adequately for everything it offers, the Monday motorbike Piezo also looks to be well built.
@Raspyrides
@Raspyrides Ай бұрын
Yes you can but where’s the fun in that lol. Plus for around the same price, you can build something that’s more than twice the power and range. There’s just something so satisfying about creating something special that can’t be bought that is unique to the builder. But that’s off topic….all that will be in my “Pros” video
@plutobars7700
@plutobars7700 Ай бұрын
@@Raspyrides The Ristretto has a discount right now you can get for a little over 3000 dollars, doing everything you said, using the parts you mentioned the bike quality would not even be close to the Ristretto. Let's do the math, you said 700 hundred roughly for the motor kit, a little over a thousand for the battery plus the cost of the original bike, then upgrading the tires, the brakes and possibly the suspension because of the added weight, would only be worth it if you just wanted to spend more money and get the experience of building your own bike. Personally if I built my own bike I wouldn't be worrying about money as much as I would be trying to get quality parts that all worked perfectly together and create a bike with all complimentary parts that made it's quality and performance the number one factor.

@@plutobars7700 different strokes for different folks man. My last build has 80ah of Samsung cells, a qs motor, fardriver, and upgraded suspension. It has 3 different speed AND torque modes that can be adjusted to my liking. It also has regenerative braking that I can set at different amperage’s depending on my rpm. I spent around 4K including the bike. There is no comparison to anything on the market for 4K that will get you that kind of range and speed. Sure the fit and finish isn’t great, but it’s ok cause all I care about is range, speed and being able to customize it.

@@FatYokel He had to upgrade everything on the bike and then still end up with that frame that wasn't made for any of that. The Ristretto has the best mid drive motor available from a reputable company, name brand high quality cells and BMS system in the pack plus the frame was made for everything on the bike. When you have to use a jack to stretch the rear of your frame apart I wouldn't really want to use that frame anymore let alone upgrade it. Long story short, if given the option to choose one bike which would you choose? The Frankenstein bike or the Ristretto? If you're saying you wouldn't choose the Ristretto you're straight up lying to yourself.
