Talk’s Kevin O’Sullivan is joined by former subpostmaster Tim Brentnall, as Paula Vennells gave evidence for a second day at the Horizon IT inquiry.
The former Post Office boss grew emotional over questions which saw her become visibly upset on a number of occasions and break down in tears twice.

@@tomricketts7821 Yes I think that often people are placed in such positions due to their 'pliability' in some form, which results in failings of either their integrity or strength to deal with the parasitic slime sliding around organisations in senior roles, who seek to benefit from all and anyone, whatever the cost. This senior slime dont care of the cost, loss and harm to others, but place someone else at the head to avoid taking the flack for their trespasses and criminality.

'Crying for herself'- we used to call this 'self-pity'. This is a grotesque, self-engineered business. Although it looks like she may deserve severe punishment- I suspect others who let this happen, MPs and politicians are scapegoating her to avoid responsibility.
@georgehughes5703
@georgehughes5703 Ай бұрын
Whom are these MPs and politicians blaming her for their actions (ie scapegoating)? By describing her as a scapegoat you are merely excusing her personal actions and attempting (just as she is) to paint her as a victim. This individual was The Boss. She did not follow the instructions of others. Rather, she instructed others. She has however accused her subordinates of knowing about and continuing the injustice - that is scapegoating.
@charlescawley9923
@charlescawley9923 Ай бұрын
@@georgehughes5703 I am not excusing Vennells of anything. It is quite possible for a highly culpable person to double up as a scapegoat for those who put them in their job. MPs of all three parties let this happen. Go back through the ministers responsible for the Post Office as 'an arms length' organisation. Generally MPs of all parties were responsible for refusing to act, deliberate or feigned ignorance. Vennells is a victim in as far as if they had acted she would have been caught far sooner and far fewer postmasters treated in an appalling manner. The worst villains of the piece are the politicians who let it happen and are, now, working overtime to dodge responsibility. Vennells deserves severe punishment but that does not change the fact others let this happen. In perspective, she was drank from a poisoned chalice. I suspect she was appointed by politicians because they knew Horizon was already a disaster and needed someone to carry the can. Even Blair, who implemented it knew something very serious was adrift. Having said that, she should have known better and backed away. Internal politicians are often so self entitled and arrogant they think nothing outside their organisations can 'get them'. Big politics is doing just that.

My personal opinion is that PO management should all loose their pensions via special legislation. There is an unpleasant legal precedent being set, however, if Parliament introduce legislation that overturns decisions made by the Judiciary. It's not the judges that were at fault, it's the PO management telling lies and lies and more lies. And still no proper compensation fot those who's lives were destroyed in the cruelest of ways. Combine this with the infected blood scandal has made me ashamed to be British. And I'm told there is almost certainly more to come from a specific part of the NHS which it is alleged to be running a two-tier NHS for tens of thousands of their most vulnerable patients. Time will tell.

Like many CEO's they make it very clear to the great unwashed - THEY DON't WANT TO BE TOLD BAD NEWS - a small problem that can be fixed with a small loss of face and an acceptable cost then turns into a giant scandal with a huge economic cost. Boards and shareholders are also responsible for this culture and maybe it is time for them to do some soul searching. Telling the truth up front could be a significant cost saving measure! The UK NHS may have to prepare for a pandemic of managerial amnesia.

Wow……..what a backsplash!!! Well you know what they say in physics…. ‘Every action has an equal and opposite reaction.’ Similar to karma in the spiritual sense. I guess you could say the media and the 😂🥰public are REALLY REACTING!!!🎉🎉🎉

Also entirely possible that she was appointed so that others could slide out from under. This all started - and was known about - under Adam Crozier - now boss of ITV. He made sure that he didn't feature in the ITV drama - is he also pulling strings to make sure that he is never mentioned/never called to the enquiry/never prosecuted etc? Also - it wasn't just James Arbuthnot who was looking into this: Andrew Bridgen MP was on the case from the start - but the Establishment hate him for standing up in Parliament and exposing them for their negligence and culpability over the Post Office and over Covid deaths - so they wrote him out of the drama and never give him credit for standing-up for the SPMs and for the public at large.

as a Christian, I too don't think she is taking the oath in the presence of the Almighty seriously at all either. she's a disgrace and isn't a reflection on a true Jesus follower. Jesus is about the Truth and she is behaving in the opposite manner - self-serving and manipulative, it's all a big disgrace. I feel for you British people, with the blood tainting debacle as well going on right now. time for a big shake up in UK government institutions.

You do realise that you are criticising a person thought by Jusin Welby to have been a suitable candidate for the position of Bishop of London? We know a lot about Vennells, but what does this say about Welby, who seems to have been uncharacteristically silent on this issue?

@@dovetonsturdee7033 I don't know why you are commenting to me. I don't know anything about Welby, I'm commenting on Paula and her lack of true fruit of the Spirit that a mature believer would exhibit.

@@carrier411 Please don't be offended. My comment relates more widely, to the current state of the Church of England and the political activist in clerical garb who is steadily destroying it.

When prosecutions are pursued the CPS should pay Mr Beer ( who should surely be knighted for this Tour de Force) to prosecute the cases: no other KCs could possibly have a better grasp of the briefs .

This will all have to be tested in a Court of Law ,was it all about money, did their bonuses come from profits, did money taken from Sub Postmasters go into profits, did they knowingly allow this fraud to continue to keep their high salaries ??? There is true wickedness here

All the main players should have their passports taken away and told to report to a police station everyday there would be bodies under buses everywhere !. Unfortunately this management model is rife in this country !
