In this course you will learn the fundamentals of Control Rig, with a focus on their use for procedural animation systems.
The course is targeted towards any skill level, from beginners to experienced Unreal devs looking to learn how to utilize Control Rig in their own projects.
Completed versions of the procedural animation systems we create are included in the project files (currently for 5.2 and 5.3) to be used directly, or for comparison.
If you need any help at all with the course, feel free to ask any questions on any video and I will personally answer. If you'd like to discuss ideas/concepts in general we have an active discord server: / discord with various developers working on animation/procedural systems.

No freaking way. I was looking at you 11 month old course on humans and thinking "this course is legit but I only want to make monsters like scorpions for my game, I already have animations for my humans"

Same here. Specifically I want to create a control rig for a scorpid enemy, but in my case, I also combine it with a human rig, because it is a 2 stage bossfight ^^ So I can make use of both courses.

Honestly if you could just take the output of this and your first course and turn it into a markeplace plugin product that can be used with any bipedal rig you'd have a hit.

Looks fantastic! In this course you teach how to use these animations in the sequencer? I'm a beginner and would like to make cinematics using procedural animations like these
@LincolnMargison
@LincolnMargison 4 ай бұрын
This doesn't cover Sequencer no, although this controlrig setup does work in Sequencer (it's how I recorded the video intro above). I have a planned course for the future that focuses on using UE for animating, which will be a sequencer focused course. But this is more so for creating runtime procedural animations (and a general look at control rig).

Would it be good to have gone through your other course before this one? Or this one more of an update to the older one?
@LincolnMargison

They're different, so you can do either, or both, in either order. But I would probably recommend this one first, as it is a much more gradual introduction with more explanations.

What resolutions will the course be available in? The last one I bought, I had a very hard time reading the text because it was so small while the resolution was too low by comparison.
@LincolnMargison
@LincolnMargison 4 ай бұрын
This one is available in 1080p, and also the in-editor recordings were made with a large editor scale to make things much clearer. But I should also point out that the previous course is available in 1080p now too, in case you want to revisit it. Check out the preview views to get an idea. EG if you go to the "create an array of foot names" sample video you should be able to see the general quality level/recording setup.

Im about to buy it but have one question: does the procedural animation works in an alternating fashion or not; like does the left front leg and right back leg of a quadruped character move while the others are fixed and vice versa or not?
@LincolnMargison
@LincolnMargison 4 ай бұрын
This is entirely customizable. We end up with an array of 'cycle offsets', one entry for each foot. So you could set it up so the left front + right back both have the same offset, and the others also have a matching (but different) offset. So for a quadruped where it would move two legs at a time but alternate, the list may look something like: [0.0], [0.5], [0.0], [0.5].

These are great but it does feel like the animations are off because it looks like the legs are finding positions but not moving the body. I dont know much about animation but is there a reason why? I went through first course and its good but the animation feels unrealistic
@LincolnMargison
@LincolnMargison 4 ай бұрын
This is configurable, we add direct control over the body movement, so it can be adjusted as needed. The version shown here is just what I thought looked the best for this character, the settings are tweaked for the 4 legged thing which moves more organically (not a robot).
@touristhawk
@touristhawk 4 ай бұрын
would be this working with the mover 2.0(plugin) in 5.4?
@LincolnMargison
@LincolnMargison 4 ай бұрын
That shouldn't impact anything that you do within the animation pipeline. I haven't personally tested it yet but I'm almost certain it would work as normal.

Maybe a stupid question, but do you teach to make this multiplayer replicated? Someone please tell
@LincolnMargison

The animation is calculated clientside, so it works for multiplayer without needing any additional work.

Something i dont like its thta the procedural animations are based on velocity and not on location 😢
@LincolnMargison
@LincolnMargison 4 ай бұрын
Could you clarify what you mean? Doing it based on location makes some sense, where it is essentially 'distance matched', and that is the approach I take, where the cycle speed is controlled/progressed by the movement speed, which has the end result that the movement in worldspace dictates the animation. The velocity based approach is important for starting/stopping movements though, and you need to know the velocity to control certain aspects of the animation (eg. scaling the leg lift height based on the speed as a simple example).
