This video describes what happens specifically in the body when you do the Wim Hof breathing technique. Breathing in a way that stimulates the fight or flight response (i.e. WHM) could act as an incredibly useful tool for dealing with inflammation or auto-immune dysfunction, and be a path to improve your health in general.
Pick up Scott Carney's book "What doesn't kill us" - ( amzn.to/2r2TZru ) It's an excellent account of his progress with the Wim Hof method written from a very rational point of view.
★DISCLAIMER: Though I haven't seen any information suggesting the Wim Hof method is dangerous for healthy individuals, the WHM deeply affects your physiology. So, it would be wise to consider any health issues you may have before trying it.

I first tried Wim Hof breathing when I was completely not in good mood, I saw you uploaded the video (last one) and I tried. What I felt was, my mood definitely got better, I was so mindful and I could able to hear clearly, even the smallest noises around me for next 20 to 30 seconds. I was so amazed by the fact that my mood got so much better. I'm practising it daily and I did try cold showers twice but not much as I live in India and it's very very hot (and also I hate cold showers or cold climate) in this time of the year. I feel more optimistic about life, I'm not procrastinating things like I have been doing from years. I would want to explore a lot about this method and I have been watching other documentaries from youtube about wim hof. The way you explain things is awesome. Great stuff and would really like to see more about Wim Hof on your channel.

Perfect explanation of the WHM and the groundbreaking experiment that showed it could be taught to others. I was one of the reserve participants myself (I did do the training with the group, didn't get endotoxin). Instead of explaining the experiment myself (which I do on a number of occasions), I will now refer to your video instead. One thing to add: I asked the researchers who conducted the study if the extreme conditions while doing the WHM could be considered dangerous. Informally, I remember that they told me that you could kind of see it like exercise. When someone exercises, one's cortisol also goes up massively, for example. Yet, it's not a problem. I remember that they thought this wouldn't be a problem either (provided you'd practice in a safe space, etc.).

I think the breath excercises are a shortcut to the endocrine reactions that evolved for running. This might explain Wim Hof's ability to do distance running with little training. The ability to control inflammation is important for running. I think the method gives you some of the benefits of running, but without the actual running, so you can channel the reaction into other things.

I have experienced severe shock from injuries several times, and since doing this method I would say that it closely resembles shock. So with that being said, it seems to reason the oxygen levels trigger all of these "autonomous" systems in our body. Because after an injury or even a horrible fright, heavy breathing is first, followed by tingles and lightheadedness, which the medical community calls shock.

Well done mate one of the best videos explaining Wim Hof and all the science behind it even better then his own interviews. I discovered Wim a few years ago and then Patrick Mckweon with his nose breathing and dont forget James Nestor he deserves a mention for his work in educating the world on breathing too, i take every opportunity to watch anything regarding breathing breathe holding and do pool training 5 days a week incorporating static breathe holding and underwater weight training, I feel its changing my life. So I’ve literally watched dozens and dozens possibly more so congratulations very well spoken and factually put together

This video struck a cord with me, I have narcolepsy an auto immune disease which btw is a topic I would love to see you cover. But the implications that this could help are very interesting. I've tried this before when I was walking something that has in the past actually put me to sleep doing. I noted that i was able to go further with less water than before which was especially surprising since it had been very long since I last exercised. I definitely felt the rush and actively doing this during the walk kept the muscle fatigue at bay while keep in me awake both during and after the walk. I also noticed that the recovery time was far faster than before. Something interesting is that my body occasionally goes hypoxic seemingly of its own volition. This is usually the first sign I get that my body is about to shut down so I make sure I'm not doing anything dangerous. A possible theory is that this is a symptom of my body trying to ad hock this breathing method to repair the damage and in attempt to heal my narcolepsy. This is incredibly interesting to me, more on this topic and if at all possible I would love it if you covered narcolepsy. I'm going to share this video with the support group to see if anyone comes to the same conclusion I did.

I'd like to add two aspects regarding Norepinephrine and epinephrine: Norepinephrine was not demonstrated so far to be increased by the breathing technique. in the Kox et al 2012 case study it was clearly correlated to the cold exposure. In the Kox et al 2014 study (endotoxine) where just the breathing was performed, norepinephrine levels appeared not to increase, but the baseline of the WHM-trained group was higher which is likely a result of prior cold exposure training. Note that this was one of the question I directly discussed with Dr Kox and this interpretation of the data was considered likely by both him and me. Epinephrine is likely to be released during the breath hold. Looking at Figure 2B and 2C of the 2014 study we can see that a heart rate increase during breath retention correlates to the o2 blood saturation starting to drop. This indicates that the drop of o2 saturation triggers the primary stress response (adrenaline) which subsequently increases heart rate. So overall the major thresholds and mechanisms should be: hyperventilation lowers blood CO2, delaying the breathing reflex, so the breath hold is forcelessly long enough to make o2 saturation start to drop (60+ seconds), which then triggers a stress response and increases adrenaline levels.
