@@TeamPanicRobotics thanks. Could a dual ESC like the BBB one be used instead of the custom motor driver?
@TeamPanicRobotics
@TeamPanicRobotics 10 ай бұрын
You could, as an alternative to a custom PCB, as the esc could power the esp32 That would make a simpler build, but it would be heavier, bigger and cost more I'm hoping that v2 will be a custom PCB that pcbway can smd all the parts onto (other then the esp32) so that the fully custom solution would be as easy to build as adding an ESC to a esp32

Another amazing video, i see in the comments you are releasing the build info in a bit after some troubleshooting. Thank you!! I cant wait to try this myself with an old ps3 controller Ive refused to throw out. Your videos always inspire me to learn something new!

nice to see this ben! paolo here ( we talked about the esp32 setup in the facebook group), a couple of suggestions: 1) maybe if the bot is to cramped take a look into esp32 d1 mini board, quite more manageable than the standard bigger board and also easier to program without the boot/reset button 2) mind that there is also a ps4controller library so tell ppl if they have either one or the other they can work with it ! as for the soldering part in the end we just serviced the soldering too on our board, it might be an option where you can integrate the esp too in the board that way! if you go with esp32s3 you'll only need to expose 4 pin to program via usb

Thanks for the tips! I have some s2 minis but unfortunately they dont work with the library for the ps3 controller. I've ordered some c3 minis to try if they dont work I'll look at the d1s I'll take a look at the ps4 library too, especially if that will work with knock off controllers, the ps3 one does not currently I would go the fully integrated route, but I want these to be easy to make, so that others can build them too. so using a ready made esp32 with a usb connector is the way to go for now

@@TeamPanicRobotics The smallest ESP32 I know of, other than the raw chip, is the Adafruit QT PY range. You can get ESP32 1/2/3 variants. Or you could go bigger to their Feather range, which has a HBridge addon option. You can add a RFM69 900mHz radio to either of them pretty readily, which has a lot more grunt to it than bluetooth does.

@TeamPanicRobotics esp32c3 has a newer bluetooth module which in my knowledge isn't backwards compatible with ps3 controller (BT2.0). According to the datasheets about the bluetooth module of esp32c3 it should work with ps5 controller but those are quite pricy.

Its always around! It uses bigger motors then an ant, so its a good test bed for ant electronics I might even upgrade it soon, the cardboard electronics bay is hanging on by a thread

Would be nice if the loaner bots could be given a slightly higher weight limit to account for these kinds of usability improvements in the design. What your doing involves more weight for components than would be needed in an optimized bot. its not like lugging around a heavier battery to allow easy charging is a tactical advantage or anyone expects loaner bots to be champions.
@TeamPanicRobotics
@TeamPanicRobotics 9 ай бұрын
Maybe, unfortunately I think the extra weight would give them an advantage. The common drive motors in this class (n20s) have more power then a 150g bot can use, even when 2 robots are stacked on top of each other, you break traction on your wheels before you stall the motor. With more weight in a bot, you get more traction, meaning getting more power out of the n20s

The problem with controller is the Aim Assist is far too strong. It's unfair to those controlling robots with mouse and keyboard. Lol

Now this looks interesting. You think it could work *as* a more serious competitor designing their own robots because they already have game controllers laying around and are more used to that feel? The idea of having something like a spinner on a pressure sensative trigger is very appealing to me.

I think so? The only thing I dont know is how well this will work long term and at big competitions. Places with lots of wifi and bluetooth signals might cause it problems

Nice work !!! In the video, you mention that the esp32 is "big". Juste wanna mention athat I saw "mini" versions too, more squarish. Could also help reduce the bot's size further ?

Yep thats the plan! I almost did it for this video, but the mini's i got where not compatible with the library needed to talk to the ps3 controller, I've got different mini's coming in for the next version
