I just found your channel last night...and I am blown away! Let's just say I haven't gotten much work done today because I'm binge-watching ALL of your videos. Looking forward to trying my hand at this soon. I can't wait to see what else you've got up your sleeve. Keep up the great work. BTW...I love the use of the 360 camera. It works really well for this application.

Have you ever tried Illustrator in place of Photoshop? It is a vector based program similar to PS and is very powerful. You can manipulate everything. I used it for many years when I was doing vinyl cutting for signs and cars. There is a learning curve to it, but the benefit is at the end you don't have to convert to vector from a bitmap. Another great video. Keep them coming, I look forward to the next one.

Thanks Steven! I dabble in Illustrator but I've been a photographer for 17 years so am much more familiar with Photoshop. Can you write actions in Illustrator?
@stevensmith2228
@stevensmith2228 3 жыл бұрын
Yes you can. I am not sure that they work the same way as PS. The two programs are very similar in a lot of ways. Illustrator uses anchor points and shapes to create, not brushes like PS. I think it would speed up work work flow for you, although this is a hobby and not your full time job, so the time spent to learn a new program may not be worth it. Once you get the hang of Illustrator you can do some really amazing vector based artwork pretty quickly. Either way your artwork is great and I look forward to trying some of it myself.

i'd watched an oldtimer's video where he uses the side of his face instead of vaseline, claiming the bristles collected just enough of his skin's oils to pick up the loose leaf. just thought that was interesting. anyhoo, your sound quality is so much better now, good job on that.

Nice vid. I just went ahead and purchased (for cheap) Affinity Designer. Learning how to use it now. Also going to be purchasing the Vintage Font Bundle... A lot of templates I can mess around with. Always looking forward to your new vids on how to do glass gilding. Your videos really help out. Thanks again.

Thanks very much! I use clear gloss spray paint on the etched areas of glass so that the gold leaf sticks to it. Gold leaf doesn’t stick well to etched glass :)

Paul, another great tutorial! Fascinating stuff! Although you mentioned burnishing the smooth I was hoping for tips on how you do the same on the blasted surfaces. I confess I didn't clear lacquer my first trial piece and although reasonably happy I had hoped for a slightly brighter finish. I guess I have answered my question myself now :-) I am using illustrator, do the actions work in that too? Cheers Rich
@happygilder
@happygilder 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Rich, glad you like the vids! The more lacquer you put on the more reflective the gold will be but it won't achieve the mirror finish. I don't think the PS actions will work in Illustrator :(

Hi, it's a mixture of distilled water and leaf gelatin. The ratio is 1 pint of water to 4 x diamonds of gelatin, heated for 4 mins in the microwave

Paul, your videos are amazing and have helped me so much in my hobby. Your explanations are so good that I'll literally be thinking of a question 3 seconds before you cover it. I was curious if it is necessary to use 1/4" glass for the glue chipping as I've read or can I just use the window glass found at Lowes? Sorry if you've already answered that somewhere else. I have a one year-old running around now and have limited time to check the comment sections of the videos. Thanks and keep up the awesome work!!
@happygilder
@happygilder 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks Myles I really appreciate it, and I'm really glad you're enjoying the videos. Some window glass will work but most is toughened/tempered and that definitely won't work. Glue chipping works because the glue is stronger than the glass. When glass is toughened (like most new windows are) the glass is then stronger than the glue. Hope that helps :)

Hi, Really enjoy your videos. Learned alot! Question, I'm trying my first Glue chipping project, and the glass has been sitting for 3 days now, and not much reaction. How long should I expect before it's completed doing the "chipping:?
@happygilder
@happygilder 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Gene, thanks very much I'm glad you like them! If you put in near/on a heat source it will speed things a lot. I've waited a week before for the chip to finish but I've achieved the same results in 12-24 hours if I use a heat source.
