Hello everyone, welcome to episode 2 of Cookie Clicker: Gardens 101! This time, we go over the ins and outs of the crossbreeding mechanic, where you are able to breed two plants together so they mutate into a new variety! Specifically, we go over the optimal layouts for plants that have two parents, with either the same or two different parents!

I can definitely see that, I haven't played the early game in a very long time so I'm not sure how the pacing is now though. And I think there's something to be said about playing a game that seems pretty simple, and then having sudden increases in depth seemingly out of nowhere, it's good to be surprised sometimes!

Maybe talk about specific plants next, how to mutate into them and such, as some mutations are really hard to figure out. Maybe you could lump the upgrades you get from plants with all that as well.

That's what I'm leaning towards at the moment, I'm not sure if I want to try and do all the plants in one video, or try and group them into a few categories and then do a few shorter videos though!

I recently got back into this game after YEARS AWAY and this isnt what i expected ive been so addicted to the garden mini game. I wish there was a full game with these mechanics

Wow, this video is so helpful. I've been using the garden since it came out and i still hadn't figured out how to cross-breed plants.Right after I watched this video I went and printed out the seed mutation chart because I finally understood it and bred five new plants! (I only got three of the seeds though because the pebbles decided not to harvest my wiskerbloom or glovemorel)

So I'm new to this game and getting enough Farms to unlock Woodchips is a daunting undertaking. All I have is Dirt, Fertilizer and Clay, and I have yet to grow a single Thumbcorn.

Yeah the early farming can be a bit of a chore, especially if you pick it up right when you're first able... just gotta keep trudging through until you're able to progress far enough to speed things up :)

I'm very glad that you found it helpful! And best of luck with that, one of my commenters said that this is the most optimal way to try and get the golden clover, just by replacing the wheat seeds with regular clovers: imgur.com/MLh2hAW Hope that helps!

to get more sugar lumps, enter Game.lumps=999999999 . (You can replace the 9's with any number you like)

@@cxmpevoke9493 Yes, when you right click anywhere on the cookie clicker website, you will see your normal right-click options, and then, you'll see inspect at the bottom. Then, click that and on the top right when you see you're on elements, click console. Then enter Game.Lumps=999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999 which is way more than enough sugar lumps you need.

This was really hepful, thanks for the video. Nevertheless I have a question. I played a bit now without using the garden too much. Mine is level 5 at the moment and I was thinking about upgrading it to mutate my plants faster (also I don't know the influence of the garden later). I used some sugar lumbs for my level 7 chancemakers but right now I believe hoarding might be a good idea because of the "Sugar baking" upgrade which gives me +64% up to +100% CPS if I don't spent them. What do you think? Spent the sugar lumbs to get to a certain level or try to get atleast 100 of them and only spent additional ones?

Honestly it depends how much you want to focus on the gardens, if you're like me and want to get the gardens all done as quick as possible, I'd say go for it and put more lumps into farms! However you can definitely do everything you would need with the gardens with the size farm you have now, so saving them is also perfectly valid until you reach 100, and then you can start spending them as you see fit. Hope that helps!

Thank you. I'm probably going for the farms then. I feel like loosing at least 20% of my cps but this should be balanced when using the garden at it's maximal potential. Besides the desire to complete it are there any plants that should be prioritized later? I still use Thumbcorn when I hope to get dragonflight. But Bakeberry and it's upgrade could be a good choice too. And planting 36 Juicy Queenbeets would really result in 36 sugar lumps? Then I should work towards this.

Bakeberry is very solid overall, the value you get from it is fantastic for the cost. I go for a very idle build, so I like Drowsyfern a lot personally, as that also gives you a lot of value over time. And the thing about Juicy Queenbeets is that you can't plant the seed at all, the only way to get them is by having the array of 8 regular Queenbeets and growing it that way if you're lucky enough. It can still be valuable, but it does take a while to get the juicy ones to grow in!

What happens if two plants have wildly different maturation times? I am curious as when you plant thumbcorn and cronerice, the thumbcorn will decay before the cronerice matures.

If you have plants with very different maturation periods, you'll need to plant them in an order that makes them both mature at the same time, so in that case you would want to plant the Cronerice, and then once it's almost mature, plant the Thumbcorn so they will both be mature!

so mutation and reprodution chances happens every tick? this way its better to use low tick rate soils to enhance reprodution times?

Lower tick rate also means the plants will die faster, but as far as getting mutations faster in real time, faster tick rates are the way to go! Wood Chips are optimal for getting new plants, but Fertilizer isn't bad either just because of how fast it goes by, so you have to watch it pretty closely so you don't miss any new mutations!

Crumbspore and thumbcorn have drastically different maturation times so I'm trying to get Glovelmore should I plant them at the same time or so that they both mature at the same time?

You definitely don't want to plant them at the same time, by the time the Crumbspore is mature the Thumbcorn might already be dead! Assuming you're using woodchips for soil, you'll want to plant Crumbspore, then roughly an hour later plant the Thumbcorn. If you're using fertilizer, I'd say Crumbsore, then like 30 minutes later plant Thumbcorn, and when they're all mature switch to woodchips. Hope that helps!

trying to start a garden without having tons of expansions, and not getting any seed types. wiki says you get the Middleweed one by leaving plots empty.. buts its been hours and zilch

Usually it happens pretty quickly, but it's all up to chance so it's possible it can take a while! If you have the Wood Chips soil unlocked, that should help to grow weeds more quickly though!

Can someone explain how u get a lot of sugar lumps. From what I understand you get 1 sugarlump after around 20 hours or something. Is that the only way to get them, seems to take a bunch of time.

That's the main way to generate them, although there are some ways you can get them faster, such as heavenly upgrades and slotting in Rigidel in the Pantheon. Additionally, you can get sugar lumps from a rare golden cookie effect, by harvesting Juicy Queenbeets in the garden, and by resetting your garden. Hope that helps!

A decent amount of the crossbreeds can be gotten with even a small garden, it's just going to take you much longer to get them is all!

Is it really necessary to plant 2 followed by 3, and then 3 followed by 2? If it's every 8 squares requiring 2 seeds each wouldn't that still be the case with removing the seed closest to the edge in the row of 3's? I'm sure I'm missing something can anyone explain?

If I understand what you're asking about, then I think it's fine to do 2-3 2-3, you don't have to do 2-3 3-2 but personally I just like how it looks better :)

They can reproduce as long as they're mature, no limit on how many times per lifetime!

That's a great question! From what I can tell, every mutation needs mature parents with only 3 exceptions. These are: - Chocoroot can be bred with mature Baker's Wheat, but Brown Mold at any stage - White Chocoroot can be bred with mature Baker's Wheat, but White Mildew at any stage - Shriekbulb can be spread from other Shriekbulb at any stage, or from Doughshroom/Duketater at any stage

There are none that increase production directly, but if you're able to get the elusive Juicy Queenbeet, those give 1 sugar lump on harvest!

You get it the same way as the regular clover, it's just much more rare. It'll take a bit.

One of the more efficient methods for golden clover (with level 9 gardens) can be seen here: i.imgur.com/MLh2hAW.png Sorry I had to use baker's wheat seeds to demonstrate the pattern because this was my beta version farm (don't have any of the seeds). I'd suggest turning on woodchips when more than half of your clovers are mature. You should get a golden clover relatively quickly with this pattern.

Several, it takes a REALLY long time to get the Juicy Queenbeets, took me at least a few days of trying before I finally got one

Are you sure that it was fully mature when you harvested it? I'm not aware of any reason you wouldn't get the seeds as long as it was mature
