I just made this for my bad boy 48" and did my first mow with it. The grass was thick and long, and wet. I still got grass piles, but not massive amounts like before with the chute. I bought the flat and angle iron at lowes, and the gal couldn't be bothered trying to find the correct skus so she rang the metal up for $11 total. I already had the rubber mat off an old project, and sufficient bolts in my hoardes of crap. My total out of pocket today was $11.26 plus tax. It turned out very well, and do appreciate your video, thank you!

It might not last as long as the metal blocker, but it's almost a 10th of the price. So I was ok with that. I'm glad the video was helpful. Thanks for watching and commenting 👍🏻

Great diy project. Also another tip is to mow 2 or 3 passes around the perimeter of property, and any object/ structure blowing in towards center of area then mow the direction of your choosing. Admittedly there are still times where a chute blocker is beneficial.

Nice video. It inspired me to make one for my Simplicity ZTR after my original got destroyed after seven years of use. I had leftover pieces of 2x2 angle iron and some straight bar. I also had an old truck bed mat that I've had for about 40 years. I occasionally cut a piece off of it for a project and it was perfect for this one. I also had leftover spray paint from other projects. The only thing I had to buy was three small bolts - $1.31. It cost more than that to drive to the hardware store. The finished project looks almost like yours, although the Simplicity mounting system is different. Thanks for the inspiration.

Nice project! I would suggest using LocTite or Nylock nuts on all of it. The vibration of the mower deck wants to make those nuts loosen up over time. Also, since there is no way to open it back up while seated on the mower, I would probably add a small eye bolt to the bottom and hook some type of bungee or rope to it so I could pull it back up while seated on the mower. I built a powered chute block for mine out of 3/16" plate steel and car window mower to raise and lower it via a 12v switch, but it was A LOT more work than what you have done here, and likely overkill for the average homeowner. It involved quite a bit of welding too.
@JustinsProject
@JustinsProject Жыл бұрын
Never can overkill to make something better. I was just trying to get a quick solution that would work for a season or two that almost anyone could build. I love the idea of the 12v switch for opening and closing the chute. I might use that when I make my metal version of this. Thanks for watching and commenting 👍🏻

I watched this video multiple times, and took the idea and made one of my own using the same materials you used for my Snapper 360z XT. I was trying to solve the same problem with some of my lawn care customers’ having mulch beds and I didn’t want to be blowing grass in them or going the same pattern every time just to prevent that. It works great, especially when mulching leaves. My only issue is mine is leaving strips of mulched up grass, and I’m curious as to your input how I could possibly fix that? @Justin’s Project

@@tyschepis4606said that I've got a couple left over from having a dump truck I was thinking about using. I made a metal one but the more I think about it if the bottom hits against something it's going to jack the brackets up.

Really??? Blow the grass the other way until you're far enough away from the patio and flower beds. Other than that good job on the chute build😁

If I blow it away from the patio, then it will cover the flower beds. If I blow it away from the flower beds, it will cover the patio. After about a year, I only use it in tight spots. But it does help. Thanks for watching and commenting 👍🏻

where is your striping kit DIY?

Sorry about that, I have gotten busy with other DIY projects and never got around to it. I keep destroying my grass with equipment. Once I get that looking good again I hope to build a decent one.

The mulching flap creates a dust cloud that encapsulates the entire mower constantly, because it doesn't seal off the grass chute well enough 🥴

Or you could have just made 3-4 passes blowing the grass away from building then blow clippings into the previous pass you just made….😂

You must not have paid attention. He’s mowing between a mulch bed and a patio so either way he faces, it will blow onto an unwanted surface. This happens a lot in mowing and a chute blocker is a fantastic add on. I agree with his statement that every mower should come standard with one.

No, in the video the first part he’s in an open field he makes one pass next to a building then turns around and blows it right back against the house, hence why I said make a few passes before blowing back into the cut grass and you won’t have that little bit of grass on the concrete by the door, rewatch it
