I got a spot 2 miles downstream on the bayou where seeded oysters from the commercial reefs get washed up on the bank of a reef. I can gather a 5 gallon bucket in 10 minutes without getting wet above the knees. These oysters are all single palm sized oysters and don't need cooning woth a hammer. Each one is a single and as big as your palm. This is in Texas and on an offshoot of Galveston Bay.
@iamatt2 ай бұрын
Got some spots west. Them commercial guys tore up xmas. Think they are banned from there now but thats our stompin grounds
@riproar112 ай бұрын
I prefer oysters that size and smaller. I have had small ones like 2" long with a deep shell cup and can attest that small ones have more flavor! But they are not that easy to locate. I once was at a place near Bodega Bay, California that served giant oysters. You had to cut it into pieces with a knife. Not as good as slurping it in one motion.
@laurierose9702 ай бұрын
I go North on 99th St. by the golf course towards bayside, stop right at the bridge and get blue crab, Redfish,Specs,Flounder and Oysters in 2 feet of water and fish from shore. Galveston is Magical. Also the Jones rd.bridge next to the Apartments and Equipment rental shop.Lots of ribbon fish but Flounder and Specs galore.Catch a ray time or two also.

Much easier to go find a pipeline canal and the oysters grow where the pipeline canal has a dam to stop the erosion (or so they thought at the time) and to anchor the pipiline in place or to put a valve. They're all over that Port Sulfur area and Bay Baptiste, etc. Can pull them up with a garden rake. Best to shuck em right there and put the shells back for the next generation to build on.

@matthewboudreaux26932 ай бұрын
No because they don’t hangout in saltwater. Some may say it’s only brackish water, but it’s definitely saltwater around Port Sulphur. Alligators generally prefer freshwater. Also in the 10 years that I’ve worked down there I have personally only seen 2 snakes. It’s weird because there is more fresh water farther south due to the Mississippi River draining to the gulf. I’ve seen some massive gators down there.
@iamatt2 ай бұрын
They most definitely live in saltwater. Who are these people that make these comments.... We see them on the beach front. I guess i should have video taped one and make it go viral....not.
@erniemorris99912 ай бұрын
@@iamatt no they don't LIVE in saltwater. You are wrong they lack salt glands to process salt. Salt water organisms must have a means to handle ocean salt period. Alligators can be in salt water temporarily, but they must be able to return to freshwater nearby due to not having the biology to process salt.
@iamatt2 ай бұрын
We see them in the bays all of the time. I don't know if they LIVE there but lets just say I wouldn't walk through the bay grass at night. They are always there, whether they call it HOME I'll leave up for debate.
