After I got used to playing Street Fighter 6 in general , I started studying 801Strider to try and improve. I talk through my thought process and some early findings from doing this exercise. This video also has example of how I setup specific situations to lab!

Video took super long to make because I tried a new way to record footage to make things go faster...it instead doubled how long the edit took 😭 Anyhow - to re-iterate, the example detailed in the video is from like 6-7 months ago, so the examples are probably not exact to how strider plays now and maybe I got to some wrong conclusions, but hopefully y'all still get some understanding of the general process I like to take when studying players🙏

trying to speed things up while only making them take longer - i think we've all been there xD also, quick suggestion - im no content creator but from a viewers perspective: it'd be real cool if this and the past videos were more obviously tagged as a series i mean think about it, in half a year when theres maybe 7 of theese someone watches a random one - not realising theres an order to them! someone completely new to the genre of fighting games (or just a scrub like me) would definitely benefit from watching all this in order 🤔 maybe some catchy title like... "Labbing made easy" or "How to train your brain" just spitting out ideas 😂

@@pills_dk I think a lot of content creators underutilize linking in the video description. Even going back to the old video and throwing a link to this one in it. I know you put a tag inside this video, but honestly those can be annoying sometimes - especially if I did something like leave this tab open to remind me to go watch the other one. A link on hand will encourage clicks and views.

Yessssss, this is the way! There’s been a weird stigma in mid-level play _for literally decades_ against players who will start using a tactic without already understanding why it works, and that’s ALWAYS been silly, because using the tactic helps you figure out why it works!!

At mid level it's definitely silly to be stigmatized. You get taught by a teacher to do and apply math you don't just look at an equation and write down until your answer says correct. Unless you're aiming to be the top dog and are already at the tip of the mountain that's when you start in innovating.

As a Plat Marisa main who's looking for ways to improve these videos have been invaluable. I crushed the opposition in gold and win streaked all the way to plat but quickly realized my pretty basic gameplan just wasn't cutting it anymore. now I need to dive deeper into the character and the game itself. Im hoping that by watching videos from players like 801 strider, Big Bird, and now you I can really accelerate my climb.

A true Diamond 💎 in the rough, being all smaller channels in sf that want to get big. So many small channels fail because you can see the lack of effort or quality or experience. You sir, this video is an incredible for this small of a channel. Good Analysis is so much better than someone’s “analysis” but it’s just a stream VOD. This really goes in depth. Love it. Subscribed.

You just earned yourself a big ol' SMACK on the subscribe button. I think it's amazing that you took the time on your own to actually do some critical thinking, labbing, and analysis of your own gameplay, as well as the gameplay of the best players to level yourself up. People often complain that devs need to do more to teach people how to get better, but there is only so much they CAN do. The onus is on the players to get better. This is a wonderful example of how to do that, and it illustrates that the devs actually DO put a lot of amazing tools in the game for us to learn and get better.

Ah yeah, so I’m holding down-back/block as soon as I press the HP during the jump until I land. And because if they block or get hit, it happens while I’m in the air anyways, I try to react to follow up from confirming that, but yeah otherwise holding block all the way thru landing

also - incoming fanboyism: holy heck dude I honestly love the way you explain your own thought process in a meaningfull and proper teaching way I know content creation is a lot of work as I dabbled in it myself but I sincerely wish for you the "worst" that can happen to someone starting out - that one of the big guns like j.wong or maxdood spot you, maybe collab with you and your channel blows up from it cause you DESERVE to be heard! (and while i do realise that grinding it out yourself is much more satisfying and all that - in the real world of content creation? collaborations with more popular creators is kind of THE way to grow so... Is your reaction time particularly strong or why did you built your gameplan around neutral reactions?
@pills_dk
@pills_dk Ай бұрын
i'd say my reaction is average. While i naturally tend to play a passive playstyle, for marisa at the point i was when i did the exercise, it was due to having built up to master from just doing neutral reaction drills and practicing spacing lololol. Eventually i started being more proactive in neutral, but yeah

I played Marisa until Diamond, but gave her up after the A.K.I. buffs because she had some very frustrating things to deal with and because A.K.I. was love at first sight. But I don't wanna stop playing Marisa forever, yet one part of her kit still ruins me to this day: Whenever I press a Heavy, I will randomly add 2 to 4 frames to those moves because of their charging properties. I have to know, does that happen to you? I have whiffed multiple anti-airs and kill combos because of this problem, I just add frames accidentally. It got to the point where I have no confidence on her anymore, I just drop every combo because I freeze when I want to link a combo into Drive Rush Cancel+Back Heavy Punch. Is that just lack of practice? How do I stop accidentally adding 3 frames to my combos? Does that happen to you too?

HAH, it's funny b/c you mentioned one of my pet peeves in fighting games which is characters having chargeable normals! I heavy finger buttons often and have gotten screwed trying to AA with her b/c of that. I started tapping buttons consciously to avoid that and eventually it became less of a problem, tho maybe it's easier b/c i'm using a leverless controller/arcade stick...that said, i've dropped her like 3 times b/c i haaaate hold-down-able normals lol
