These coraline theories are getting scarier and scarier... AND I LOVE IT

It's kind of weird in a way that the boy is eating the cone with three scoops to symbolise the three kids that had been captured perhaps. But the one in the real world is disappointed with his dropped scoop, perhaps the one that go away. Which could further aid your theory that the cat is allied with the witch. This would make sense actually, as it would explain why he is always with Wybie- he is watching and protecting Wybie from the same fate that he and his grandmother's sister endured, and it would also explain why the Beldam went after Wybie's grandmother's sister-she failed the first time, and probably wanted to fulfil what she intended to do with Wybie's great grandfather, so she took someone from the next generation of the family.

On the wall paper those were stag beetles, not scarabs. “The stag beetle in Ancient Egyptian symbolism was called - Keph-ra. He was the 'Egyptian god of midnight who bears the sun through the underworld’.” Edit: This probably means that the Beldam manipulates the family to make it the worst. Then, she makes the door become enticing. The other mother is the representation of Keph-ra. She is the sun in the underworld. This also makes sense of why it is always night. She is representing the sunlight to lure kids into her web.

I just saw Coraline again last night. No only is that movie a masterpiece of stop motion animation, it's story that only gets better after multiple viewings with an awareness of a much deeper story thanks to all the theories especially from yours truly.

As for the thump sound at the end of the movie once it goes black, the thump could be the sound of the rock that coralline tied the key to, finally hitting the water at the bottom of the well. I’d have to rewatch the ending to see if they ever showed us that the key hit the bottom, but from what we already know from the beginning of the movie, it takes a good moment for anything dropped down the well to actually hit the bottom.

Omg omg I’ve just realised something!!! So in the photo of the blue boy we r concentrating on the boy but not the background! He is on dry grass with some oddly shaped trees behind him. So at the start of the movie when coraline goes exploring the garden she’s walking around DRY GRASS! When she hear the cat she freaks out and runs up the hill toward the well which btw has some oddly shaped fruit trees which look very similar to the ones we see in the photo. So what if the cat was ‘vermin’ and he was leading coraline to the well hoping for her to fall in.... I mean maybe that is how the baldam first got he blue boy because he was lured towards the well...... in fact the only reason the coraline was distracted was because (excuse my spelling) whybie came and stopped her from standing on it... maybe whybie is in on the whole thing, maybe everyone living in the pink palace is in on it. Maybe whybies grandmother only let coraline live there was because she was scared whybie would be taken and so whybie is trying to protect her..... it would explain why the old ladies downstairs gave coraline the thing to help her see into the other world, because they wanted her to go there and get trapped. EDIT: also can I say that after rewatching the start, I realised that ‘vermin’ was there when whybie told coraline that the branch was poison oak and that’s how the other mother knew that coraline needed the mud.

Maybe the cat knows that Coraline was gonna throw it in the old well that connects to the other world? Maybe the cat was worried that the Beldam will return after Coraline throws the key in the well because he didnt had the chance to tell Coraline that it leads to the other world. So, I have my own Coraline theory, and I know it has a few holes, but bear with me. Everything in Coraline happened (The Beldam, the other world, the ghost kids), but Coraline's parents were dead. The accident actually killed her parents and mentally scarred her. Since she had no other relatives, she was adopted by her neighbors, retired actresses Spink and Forcible, who weren't as old as Coraline thought, but were still slightly senile, thus allowing Coraline to sleep in the apartment her parents had bought and furnished before they died. Thus, she started pretending that her parents were alive, to the point where she actually believed it. Bobinsky, Spink and Forcible, not wanting to upset the already grieving child, played along. The Other Mother used this to her advantage, and the rest of the story is as told. This explains why she goes to Spink and Forcible when her parents are "kidnapped" by the Beldam. Also, the Beldam never really kidnapped her parents: like the Other World, she simply made a copy of them and used Coraline's delusions to her advantage. The blonde woman who was seen helping Mrs. Jones in the store is actually Coraline's case worker, who is in charge of making sure Coraline has everything she needs for school, and she was the one who wouldn't get the gloves for Coraline. The reason she got them later was because Spink (or Forcible) made her a similar pair, and she deluded herself into thinking that her mother gave them to her. The ending, where the Pink Palace residents are all gardening, you'll notice that the only person who actually acknowledges the Jones parents is Coraline herself, hinting that she still believes her delusions, but is beginning to come to terms with her parent's death.

I have a potentially ground-breaking alteration to your theory, and I can’t help but wonder what you would think about it. You asked a question in this video regarding Vermin, "Why doesn't he have buttons for eyes?" I have another question. How do we know that Vermin is her son? One would think that if the Beldam were going to involve her own son in this, she would allow the boy a form with a little more versatility than a simple mimicry of a cat. So, I ask, what if he isn't her son at all? There are two possibilities here, both resting on statements you made in your video. Firstly, "Why doesn't he have buttons for eyes?" Well, if he were not her son, than who is he? To answer this, I wonder why the Beldam doesn't simply enter the upper world herself? Very simply, if a little mystically, she has no soul. Beings with no soul can cast no reflection in the mortal world, signified by the belief that the eyes are the window to the soul. This is why vampires are thought to cast no reflection. So if she were not able to operate in the upper world, she would need a middle man, but who? She would need someone she could trust or, in this case, someone she could control to a degree. but she couldn't send another soul, that would bring the risk of escape. Also, this being would need to spend long amounts of time in the upper world, and that would represent a constant drain on her magic, so it would need a pool of power all it's own. She had no allies like this. But, what if she made one? Stuck in the Underverse (Other World), she would have only a minimal chance to make allies, but what if she manufactured one? Let's assume for a second that she had a small reserve of leftover energy, say... the blue boy. If she were to suck enough power out of him to sustain herself, she wouldn't have enough left to animate a human form... but a cat? Yet, how would this being move about the upper world? Simple, and to answer this, I used another question you asked. Why is the blue boy not amongst the souls? Well, the answer to that has already been proffered. The eyes are the window to the soul. Where the blue boys eyes are, his soul is. So, where are his eyes? One of your statements answered this as well. You mentioned the similarity between Vermin’s eyes, and the painting. Well, obviously... The blue boys eyes are in Vermins head. This would allow for the Beldam to create a completely programmable ally, who would not represent a drain on her own powers, and still allow Vermin access to the upper world. This is how she would gain knowledge of her victims appearance, she had a man on the inside. This is how the doll, once altered, would make it's way back into the pink palace in just such a place where the victim would be the first to find it, Vermin could carry it until just the right moment. This is how the Beldam would be able to influence the real world. This is also why Mr. Lovat and Vermin are the same. Vermin was not made to mimic Mr. Lovat, Mr. Lovat is mimicking Vermin. This is why, if you'll notice, Mr. Lovat always looks a little frazzled, particularly around the fur on his cheeks, but Vermin is well put together. Mr. Lovat is mimicking the being he once knew, but using techniques he is unfamiliar with, hence the imperfect match. Now, for the second possibility, based upon a little side question you threw in at the end of the Vermin segment. "What if Vermin is something that was in the other world before... something older." Well, this is something I've actually been devoting a bit of thought to for a while. Why did the Underverse exist at all? Why was there even a portal for the Grand Dame to enter into, creating the entire mess in the first place? Why is the entrance marked by a fairy ring? Well, why would a being magical enough to warrant a fairy ring be in a simple hole in the ground... alone. Mythologically speaking, the Fey are tricksters. Most of them anyway. They love playing tricks on unsuspecting victims and, 9 times out of 10, they don't really mind if the victim is a little worse for wear at the end of it. They are also social creatures, existing in relative harmony with one another... depending on how loose your definition of "harmony" is. So where are the Fey in the Underverse? If Vermin really is something older than the Beldam, than it stands to reason that he is the previous occupant. So why was he alone? Let's think about this a second. If there is one thing we know about the Fey, they are natural creatures. Meaning that they thrive in the wide expanse of nature. So why is the Underverse so small? Why is there only one natural entrance? Why is that entrance clearly marked, despite the secretive nature of the Fey? What if the Underverse is not a home? What if it’s a prison? What if Vermin wasn’t just the original occupant of the Underverse? What if Vermin was the original prisoner? Such a creature would be able to teach the Beldam how to use and abuse her abilities, and feed off of the dregs of her victims until just such a time as it gained the ability to escape, perhaps clawing out the eyes of it's previous human tool in an attempt to keep it's past from coming back to haunt it. What would such a being do the moment it regained access to the upper world? Ensure that it would never be imprisoned again, of course. How would it do this? By manipulating Coraline into throwing the key into it's previous cell, now occupied by the power devoid remnants of the Beldam, likely dead, who wouldn't be able to use it anyway as Vermin had clawed off her source of power. Perhaps the portal Vermin used at the end wasn't created by the Beldam, but by Vermin itself, now able to go anywhere it wanted? This... was far more long winded than I anticipated. Sorry. Please tell me what you think. Thanks.

If you think about it, the Beldam probably put something in the food that makes Coraline sleepier. Like drugs. The Beldam gave Coraline drugs?! That makes this movie seem more messed up than it was already.

I know this is just a theory and all, but it seems very accurate. When Coraline was in her room and trying to get rid of the key, Mr Lovat, the (good kitty) tried to stop her, but when she was actually at the well, Vermin (the bad kitty) was fine with it going down the well like you said. It would actually make sense though, everyone in coralines world has a counterpart in the other world except for two people the beldam and Coraline. It would make sense that the son had to be a cat, their is no other "character" for him to be, and he couldn't show himself as a boy because he doesn't exist in coralines world.

After rewatching the movie, the colors blue and orange stand out the most. The entire movie has dull colors (of course in some places they use other colors) but blue and orange stand out the most. They happen to be contrasts of each other. Orange can represent determination and blue intelligence. Do you think there could be more meaning behind this?

I had forgotten about the movie Monster House for 12 years. You’re theory video reminded me of it. The thumbnail made something tickle in my brain. Your video made me remember that Monster House was a movie I had in interest in when it was in theaters. But my mom wouldn’t allow me to see it. She did say I could see it when I was older. Another great creepy coraline video Question: why does vermin go back?. He doesn't need magic to sustain himself as evident by he's able to go into the real world and not dissipate, wouldn't he want to be free of the pocket world and of his constantly wilting mother for good?. Also have you noticed when ever vermin is on screen his eyes glow while Mr lovat eyes do not (Just something I noticed)

I like the theory. It's plausible and gives an explanation to the end scene where "Vermin" disappears. I like that you also brought up the wallpaper design. One thing I haven't seen anyone talk about is that detail alone. Id like to point out that in the beginning when the Coraline doll is being crafted, the wallpaper is different from all the wallpaper inside the pink palace and the other world and is never seen again throughout the movie. It would be interesting to hear your thoughts on that.

I know why the ghost kids were stuck on earth as ghosts, and didn’t go to heaven. This only happens when u live a really bead death, like if u die from drowning, a car accident or murder. Those kids lived a bad death bc the beldam lured them in, blinded them with buttons and killed them

I dont mean to be rude or anything, but the two cats thing I really don't get. Everyone in the other world has at least one thing that's different, obviously the button eyes, but going deeper on that, the way they act and how they show emotion? The cat doesn't have much difference besides the voice, which that could support your theory, but everything else is the same. Same missing part of the ear, and same sassy attitude. My theory (I swear I didn't watch Any other) is that the reason the cat can talk is because of how magically infused the world is. Since its seems like the world is a pocket and not exactly future or past, the portal would contain the magic and let the cat speak. Proof of this it the magical stone that is given to Coraline. It didn't properly work until she went into the pocket world. One could argue that it was working all the time because everything in the world was real and colorful where in the pocket everything was grey. True, but the eyes which seem to be the only real thing besides Coraline and the cat, were shining a color. Just a theory. I dont mean to argue but yep.
