In part 2 of our wireless robotic lawnmower series, we examine the suitability of cameras and optical sensors for outdoor navigation.
🎥 Wireless robotic lawn mowers are available with different navigation solutions. In this video, we explain why cameras and optical sensors are only suitable for outdoor use to a limited extent.
⌚️ 00:00 - Problems with optical sensors
⌚️ 01:16 - Rain and dirt affect cameras
⌚️ 05:12 - Why cameras are not a good solution for robotic lawn mowers
🌱 STIGA STIG A and Husqvarna 550 EPOS rely on internal sensors and RTK GPS systems, while Worx Landroid Vision, Ecovacs Goat G1 and Segway Navimow Vision Fence rely on cameras.
💦 Robot mowers are exposed to heavy soiling, which can impair the functionality of optical sensors. Indoors, however, laser and compressed air sensors work excellently.
🚫 ROBOSCHAF CEO Bernd Ellersdorfer illustrates why cameras in the garden are problematic and explains why the responsibility for constantly cleaning camera systems is often passed on to the customer.
🔜 Stay tuned for part 3 of our video series, in which we take a closer look at the problem of RTK GPS in the garden.
