Curly was broken hearted over Shirley. Remember when he played loud music and stopped paying his rent? Alf kicked him out and Vera brought him home like poor little lost puppy dog. They certainly did make a mess out of Curly’s storylines. I don’t understand the appeal of Raquel at all. I know she had and still has a following but is not my cup of tea.

Raquel waa the sweetest kindest character on that show.

​@@chrissywales6575- You've said pretty much what I was going to. I remember my Mum doing the same thing back in the 80's when I was little. Most small groceries weren't self service. Even if you were in the shop yourself the grocer would get the goods for you. Something which was highlighted in a past episode when Alf refurbished his shop & people initially were surprised that they had to get the items themselves.

His accent is American - not at all Canadian. At least I hope that's not what we sound like. LOL . I've known Brits that have been here the best part of their adult lives and they still have a British accent. Nitpicking me..

Lol! Yes i agree about Alf but hes supposed to be very jelous of Audrey! He does appear childish & petty but thats men for you! The majority of them, however macho they want to seem, they are little boys deep down! Alf makes me want to give him a good slap & a talking to but despite his success hes small time & no risk taker plus hes on the mean side & begrudges every penny spent! He should never have married Audrey, although i reckon shes good for him & if only hed relax & enjoy himself he wouldnt have had his mini heart attack! Most men have a jelous streak but if they are confident & sure of themselves its just a minor fault & quite complimentary to their female better half! Men like Alf are small minded & their bank balance is their comfort blanket & they should stay single, trouble with Alf is he would have married a paper bag he was so desparate! Audrey is like an exotic Bird of Paradise & bares no malice & i think she genuinely loves Alf & Treats him like he is her Lord & master but hes so insecure & Old fashioned he doesnt appreciate her. Shes his arm candy, boosts his self image & his sense of worth So many men are like this, he thinks he owns her & doesn't want to spend his wealth on having a good life & enjoying his autumn years. Thankfully Audrey knows how to get round him, cajoling him & counteracting his petulant spoilt pettiness with cuddles & sweet talk. Anyway its a show & not real but is a study of stereotypes & there are real Alfs & Audreys & Ivys & Veras. The scriptwriters of these Corrie episodes were cĺever enough to study the psychology Of stereotypes so that the characters relate to our own lives...! Still its a credit to the show that makes us angry, sad, furious, happy, ready to split our sides laughing Id still like to knock the spoilt pouty roue off Alfs face Give him a kick up the backside & Make Audrey give him a good talking to ! The money hes made over the years must be considerable & i hate meanness, not rashness Or frivolity, meanness of money is meanness of spirit Alf is very typical of many chaps Audrey is a tonic & gives a good idea how to manage blokes like him by stroking his ego etc. Regards 🇬🇧👧

Alf was used to having Rene as more of an equal partner in the business. Audrey was the floozie who managed to finally luck out and hook a man who was actually single. She ran ring’s around him and got security. She still bought everything she wanted but he finally got her in the end when he cancelled his life insurance.
