I am in America, but watching on KZfaq and Britbox and know the story of Peter Adamson. It is, indeed, sad. He was angry that they chose to have his character go in such a way and blamed producers for trying to turn the audience against him by having his character die in the midst of an affair for Rita to find out. Would have been very nice if things could have turned out differently, especially since Len was the one who got onto Ray for cheating with Janice.

Elsie's departure seems quite sudden, and I can't help but wonder if Pat Phoenix had to leave to look after her terminally ill husband, Alan Browning (who played her on-screen husband Alan Howard, of course). Browning died of liver failure in September 1979.

I come from a small town - My mum and her like wouldnt have got on with Elsie or Rita for that matter - Too fancy - I think maybe Ivy or Vera maybe Hilda would have been more her type - People like Elsie were gossiped about - you would here them talk about stuff they got up to during the war and what they were wearing stuff like that - My dad would have got on well enough with Elsie which would have been like a red flag to a bull as far as my mother was concerned
