Fred Gee was a brilliantly created character - short tempered and aggressive but very unhappy and vulnerable underneath. And he was so funny with Bet and Mrs Walker - Bet's best Corrie days I reckon, before she became landlady and became much less funny.

I’ve thought he was brilliant from the first time I heard him, last heard him on the Athletico Mince podcast (Bob Mortimer and Andy Parsons, don’t know if you know it? Hilarious), we saw the live show just before the first lockdown, can’t believe we were all joking about ‘this virus’ 😒 look ‘ow that turned out then!!! 🤢

Interesting to see how the world was and how it has changed within your own lifetime. Thank you so much for the upload, I am really enjoying these episodes, it's like a history lesson. I am no feminist, especially by the present day definition of what one is, but my God, WHY the hell were men so dependent on women to cook for them, and women dependent on men to fix their plugs and do maintenance jobs? LEARN to do things for yourself, be independent, and that goes for BOTH sexes. It all looks so ridiculous looking back to how people lived.

Bert "you know what I mean" Tilsley was absent from the end of April until a brief appearance in mid July. The actor then suffered a stroke, losing the use of his left arm, thankfully losing "you know what I mean" from his vocabulary, and sadly slowing him down. He reappeared in December 1982.

Peter was arrested in 81 for exposing himself in a toilet and again for public indecency, he had 2 trials, shortly after he had a stroke, which affected his left side, which is covered in a later storyline, a lot of these storylines were filmed months in advance

He was a great character, and had Peter not become so ill and pass away I think that Ivy would have been a much different character in later years as Bert kept her in check.

@@francesgillotti1378 Yes he (Chris Quinten) was an awful actor. Could never stand him at all. Then he thought he was going to be a big star in Hollywood, married Leesa Gibbons for a short time till she realized she was being used and threw him out. He disappeared after that fiasco.

Were they trying to make Len less likeable here, so he wouldn’t be missed after his off screen death in 1963? Was this part of the way of getting rid of him? I’m definitely with Chalkie here. ( I know they’d also written it that his ‘time away’ wasn’t work, but he was actually cheating on Rita by this point).
