yes its hard to believe so many star characters appeared in the same show at the same time..its either a fluke or divine providence or brilliant work by the production team

Me too loving it in 2024 in Australia. I was a girl watching it in 1960 onwards in UK. Now I see how well written it was, the acting so good and a long gone morality shining through as though it would be so forever. But sadly today’s world is not the same.

Rita is alive to this day lol, they should have been allowed to adopt a baby or toddler. Also that over 35 and 45 seems stupendous, I know over 40's who have given birth, and even back then people were living to a grand old age. I firmly believe the potential parents's financial background plus the other checks should be done but Jesus, Rita and Len were at the perfect age and financially secure :/ I know it's all fictional, but imagine a poor orphan/ unwanted kid who would gain loving parents and a secure upbringing. Also we would have not had to suffer that Sharon and her gob smacking ways 🤣

Ken is expected to take on Tracy, why isn’t Derdrie expected to take on Uncle Albert who is clearly dependent on Ken? Ken was keen enough to help Albert when it was fully to Kens benefit, yet when it might upset his little lady friend it’s no go. They love to hammer male chauvinism but the opposite is happening here. If the roles were reversed Ken would be called a “pig” for not wanting some other man’s child……Derdrie is demanding Ken get rid of the person he has been responsible for and cared for for years and it’s just fine. I find it strange.

That Uncle Albert was cantankerous old git. He reminded me of a few I've met over the years...although they gave their service to their country they felt life owed them. It's a delicate balancing act of accepting some attitude but not putting up with condescending abuse.

This scene with Len and Rita reminds me of a lovely woman who fosterd two little Asian boys ,they went to the same nursey,in that era policies changed by some know alls regarding race, and parenting ,she was devastated she and her husband had looked after them since they were tiny babies she loved them and they loved the only mother they ever had, race never came into it just love, some of the policies in them days were cold and inhumane and a lot of mistakes were made by goverment ,over forty years later i hope the rules have softened ,respecting people's feelings and the damage that can be done to children.
