Coronavirus: how China builds two hospitals at top speed at the heart of the virus outbreak

As fatality rates caused by the China coronavirus continue to rise, two temporary hospitals - Huoshenshan and Leishenshan - are being built in Wuhan in an effort to provide an extra 2,300 beds. The hospitals are expected to be completed by February 2 and February 5 respectively. More medical teams have also been deployed throughout Hubei province to provide support during the health crisis.

Remember that hospitals aren’t regular old buildings. They need much more wiring and whatever for the patients’ needs so this is realy really fast.

the suckiest part of seeing deadly viral infection. others can't cure it. it has to be your own body defense system overcoming the virus. even something as common as influenza/common cold can't be cured.... you either prevent it (with vaccine) or your immune system can overcome it.

Just occupy some high schools or stadiums, and turn them into temporary hospitals. While we are at it, why aren't hospitals setting up outdoor tents as waiting areas? Everyone cramping inside hospitals' confined space is just going to make matters worse.

Key word there is temporary. Not sure why they did not just go with field hospitals using quanset huts and tents. Would have been quicker, done the same job and been easier to take down when they were done with it. From my understanding the SARs hospitals in Beijing are still there and abandoned.

Great respect for the Workers and management who are trying their best to complete this work on time. I have been to Wuhan in 2017 and never expected it this way. It is beautiful place.

Sofia Fiona Kelly They can’t man the whole country depends on them. Same with the doctors and as much as it is unappealing to hear that they aren’t getting any rest you have to understand that it is necessary. When catastrophe like this happens we need people working like this to solve the problem. The atmosphere there right now is absolutely tense and I know this because my uncle who is there told me. Nothing pains these doctors more than pain and suffering of these patients and many of them willingly work overtime.

Justtubingby Yeah but you also have to understand that these construction work for the most part don’t require too much skills. Those jobs typically don’t pay well as it’s not very demanding of skill. The west is probably the only place on earth where construction workers earn more than white collar.
