Id* wish i would not receive any notification for this mid-week vid. From my point of view they are too short, mostly useless to not say trash. If id wish to know *8 Simple Camp Knots* i would just google it. I know what you want to do with this but imo you eather find some actually intresting stuff (and yes i know that actually finding good shit and filming it might not be worth your time spent) of just drop it. Its not your thing man.

Something many people don't realize is you have to practice knots regularly or you forget them. Set up a knot-tying station and do it while you watch Netflix or whatever. I have 20 core knots that I practice almost daily for just a few minutes so that I can tie them with my eyes closed. Even more importantly, practice them in real settings so you know which ones work best under given circumstances. That's not as easy as it sounds.

The knot skills tutorials never get old. most of us don't use these skills on a regular basis, but these are a good reminder as we are thinking about our spring and summer adventures that it might be a good time to re-familiarize ourselves with some skills. I enjoy these videos. They are great reminders that skills are lost if they are not used. They are perishable skill. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks Shawn! I'm a Scoutmaster and every Tuesday we have a "knot of the week". With the exception of the Marline Spike Hitch and Jam Knot, all these knots are in the Scouts BSA handbook and the scouts have to demonstrate them for rank. Through repetition, they are becoming quite proficient with rope work and love when I introduce a "new" knot such as the Truckers Hitch or the Jam Knot, etc. IMHO, rope work, fire craft, proficiency in woods tools and general woodcraft are skills that form the basis for outdoor learning. Mastering simple skills such as these not only gives them another tool in their toolbox but also builds confidence. -Sean

My Scout leaders taught us boys to tie all kinds of knots. We moved on to splicing ropes, backsplicing, eye splicing, etc We also made ropes with a homemade machine and made ropes from hemp twine and other tines. One of many fond memories from Boy Scouts. Love your videos.

A "Square" knot is sometimes called a "Reef" knot. We can't forget about the bowline's brother the "Sheet Bend" or a "Tautline Hitch" and what about our friends the "Clove Hitch" or "Figure-Eight" Just here for ribbing, the engagement and hopes that this will have a follow-up it two. It's outstanding AF to have a clear and concise resource to point someone to.

Thank you for the very practical short...6 1/2 minutes of pure, no messin' about, highest-value content. I'm sure Reddit still says that you kick puppies and complains that you didn't plant and harvest the polyester and braid the rope yourself. I'm starting to think they don't know what they are talking about and that it's possible the internet is just full of haters. 😉 The food shorts are all party, and this short was all serious business. I hate trying to come up with silly comments, but hopefully taking time to post these helps the channel engagement.

I’ve always found the sheet bend easier to remember than the square knot. I always get the second portion of the square knot backwards. Good video as always. Also, the marlinspike hitch is great to learn because it can easily be transitioned into a bowline or jam knot. I think weavers of eternity has a video on it IIRC

Nice update to your old knots video: 1:01- bowline - one of the most useful, a favorite 1:37 - square knot - joins 2 lines, but slips under load 1:57 - fishman's bend - also joins 2 lines, but much less likely to slip 2:32 - cow hitch (lark's head) - not the best, but so simple and quick 3:04 - Prussik knot - holds a loop onto another line, movable & bidirectional too 3:56 - arbor knot - good knot for some tension 4:50 - timber hitch - easy & not hard to release (usually) 5:19 - marlinspike hitch - I use this and other quick release spikes mainly around a tree Other good knots scouts and everyone else should know: clove hitch, trucker's hitch, alpine butterfly, double figure 8, 2 half hitches (not really a good knot, but can easily do one-handed), tautline, palomar knot

You are much better at instructing knot tying than the bosun mate that instructed me at Cape May. Since I couldn't tie knots, he let me do push ups and chin ups instead. A very nice guy for a bosun, always worried about my health, asking me if my mom had dropped me on my head when I was a baby. Great video, very well done and informative. It's good to practice and get this down at home instead of trying to do outside in cold wet weather with numb fingers.

You gave me some really great nostalgia with this one. If it ain't raining, we ain't training. I learned some knots when I was a kid with my dad in 1980 when we lived in Missouri out by Lock and Dam No. 25. It was raining the typical light rain for the area - cats and dogs - and we were sitting inside watching it come down. My dad get some rope and decided to teach me knots he learned in Boy Scouts to get his Eagle. Great times. Thank you for this one. Put me in a place I loved.
