A Cortex Command video in.... PRESENT DAY?

One of the greatest physics strategy game, the fact this was made 1 day before I had an urge to reinstall and play again is simply too close for comfort haha! Truly a wonderful game, and deserved way more hype than it has

The "white bits" on the concrete are (most likely) steel reinforcements so kinda makes sense that diggers can't go through but projectiles can.

Arne, the game's concept artist, says his earliest files date back to March 2005. In regards to the story, Arne also says that the game was meant to have a full-fledged campaign!

The fact that this man so casually showed a clip of a rocket propelled chainsaw going through a person, ricocheting off the one behind him and killing a third dude should let y'all know what kind of game this is

I believe the best play to play this is splitspcreen on the same keyboard with a like-minded person, start skirmish defense without any AI factions. making each other brains invincible(place brain as much on top as you can, then cover it with some concrete block in the building phase), and then just do whatever the fuck you want to each other, usually ending after a few hours with a crash caused by tens of thousands of mine bombs being placed on the map, the game going 1 frame per minute because every pixel on the map is a nuke that just detonated. It's really fun and we still play a game or two every few months, usually coupled with downloading all the new mods since then and trying them all out.

i wouldn't say it's dead. it was released as a 1.0 on steam and the devs deserve to move on. it holds up still. Also when you talk about diggers not being able to dig through bunker walls at 10:30, the white bit is actually metal.

Though I don't usually like recommending other youtubers on a youtube video, as I think it is quite rude, I feel a bit obligated here. For anyone looking for mass amounts of Cortex Command content, even still coming out today (to an extent), you can check out a guy by the name of NeosForme who has over 200 videos on the game, encompassing the game modes, multiple campaigns, and crap loads of mods. There isn't as much today as there was 5-6 years ago, but that just means there is a hefty backlog.

I fucking loved this game as a kid/teenager, but then I kinda just forgot about it.

i remember cheesing entire match by just dropping pods with crabs right on the enemy brain the second the match started. 10/10 experience

Actually this game name was originally called D.I.R.T, it was early test version of the game before they changed it to Cortex Command. To be honest development was so slow that I never believed they would make full game and sell it.

i remember messing around with drop crates filled with crabs, instantly nuked everything for some reason maybe a physics overload

BTW if you're playing cortex command on mac and you can't use "right mouse button" then change to classic keyboard in the controls. It feels... arcade-y but it works and its fun!

i managed to win a skirmish defence once, it was mainly finished up with an airstrike attempt it was rapidly shot down but the debris took basicly all of em out ,i then cleaned up the one miner the enemy had

As a kid I would creat what I called Nukes. I would use the cheapest dropship and put in as many of the crab creatures as possible. It woul be so heavy that it would plummet out of the sky and explode, sending shrapnel of the crab creatures in every directions, eviscerating every thing and turning my game into a PowerPoint presentation lol They caused immense damage to the environment.

I really liked the game but the wonky code made it a frustration to play. I don't know if they ever fixed it but at one point dudes would just explode from tripping over the invisible joint between build pieces. I think sometimes they'd also just essentially rip themselves apart walking if a limb got caught on a pixel. Still was a pretty fun, destructive game for a little while.

Wait... the original game is on steam... isn't this "community project" basically illegal? And I'm pretty sure the devs did actually work on it decently&recently : I remember having the version with the laser rifle (forever missed) and without the Browncoats before getting it on steam. (Nb: I said everything above before watching the vid)
