You actually have the Eon version??? Mine wore out years ago (I got it in 1977, at a convention where Eon was demonstrating it). Just so you know, it probably is somewhat valuable now, if it's in reasonably good condition. The original version is not compatible with the new FFG version. I guess some of the alien powers COULD be adapted to the Eon rules.... but I wouldn't want to be the person to deal with that task. You'll also run into situations where you have the same alien but their powers have either been fine-tuned, slightly modified, or even changed entirely. Do you use the old Laser or the new Laser. Any Lucre powers from the original game, if they are in the FFG game would be ENTIRELY different, since FFG hasn't added Lucre. Even when the powers haven't actually changed, per se, they now are more explicit about when the powers can be used, and so on. I advise that you should put the Eon game away as a collectable (or try to sell it), and pick up the FFG version. As much fondness as I have for Eon's game, FFG's game is much cleaner, the rules are better defined, some of the old powers are less vague about what you can or can't do (Schizoid is a good example).

Yeah, Lucre (and flares and moons) were not in the original boxed edition. You had to buy those separately. There were 9 official expansions for the Eon Products edition. I think the Mayfair edition also had at least one expansion (More Cosmic Encounter). The current Fantasy Flight Games edition has 5 expansions, with a sixth coming in November. The current game does not have Lucre, nor does it have Moons. They still have added in some or all of the Lucre Aliens, but they changed them to not require Lucre. I think that FFG sees Lucre as an unnecessary complication to the game. And most people didn't like it much. Also, most people didn't like Moons either and never included them in their games. So I'm not entirely surprised that the FFG version doesn't include either. On the other hand, Flares were so popular that FFG included them in the base set, instead of saving them for an expansion.

@@tazz3744 If it's important enough to argue over, why wouldn't it be important enough to check the FAQ? Besides, even if you don't want to consult the FAQ during the game, if you're going to bother making notes on the actual game components, why wouldn't you at least check the FAQ sometime after the game has concluded? Not checking the official FAQ is just lazy and potentially dangerous for fragile friendships.

Put the info on the dam cards! Creating a game that requires reading faqs is just lazy. 4. If your friendship is so fragile, don't play the game. You will fight over it.

Sigurd Hendseth Øyan Chosen can use divine intervention immediately after encounter cards are revealed, an only as a main player. If you were the Chosen and you and your opponent revealed a negotiate, you would then be able to use divine intervention to draw three cards and if any were attack cards, you could use one to win the encounter (unless you were against the Loser in a declared Upset, for instance)
