It really bothers me that the minimum wage isn’t higher in Hawaii. The average pay should be $85k a year.

If the minimum wage goes up the cost of living goes up.

Amazing video, thank you. More like this about living or moving to Oahu please. I'm planning to move to North Shore this summer to rent for a while, then use my VA loan soon after on a 2 bed 2 bath house/condo

Hey Johnny, thanks for your feedback! Sounds like you know exactly what you want when you move here. North Shore is on our list of neighborhood tours so keep your eyes on the horizon! Also, reach out if you have any questions 🤙🏽

I'm from New York City and looking into moving to Oahu. It's just my cat and I. Since I love warm weather, all I've ever used during New York summers and when I lived in Singapore, was a fan. All I ever plug in are my laptop and cellphone to recharge. I'm hoping to keep all costs down as much as possible.

I like your low energy consumption lifestyle, Riley 😎 You can most definitely get away with nothing but an oscillating fan here in the islands. However, what you save in electricity costs may be off-set by other expenses (some of which we mention in this video). Since it's just you and your cat it really comes down to what your lifestyle requires in terms of location, amenities, work, shopping and leisure. Have you checked out our neighborhood tour videos?

@@movingtohawaii not yet. Just trying to get a feel of everything. I'm open to any neighborhood as long as I'm close to a bus stop and cost is ok.
@movingtohawaii

@@rileystein6195 I see. When you've got a cup of your favorite beverage and your cat is purring on your lap, take some time to watch our neighborhood tour videos. We JUST dropped the Hawaii Kai one, but they all should give you what you're looking for - a FEEL of the neighborhood, people, sometimes food and leisure as well. As for our public transportation system... that's a whole topic in and of itself. (In fact, that may be a video we do in the near future! Thanks, Riley 🤙) As of right now, having your own vehicle is by far the most popular mode of transportation for people living here. Our bus system is adequate (but basically non-existent on neighboring islands) and covers the majority of living areas on Oahu. You may need to pair bus transport with another form of personal transport like a bike, scooter, skateboard to reach destinations slightly separated from the bus routes. One example is Ko'Olina. Sure, on google maps it looks like it's right in the second city of Kapolei and the bus routes go right by it... but actually walking from the "Ko'Olina Bus Stop" to anywhere in Ko'Olina is NOT FUN or SAFE! Yet, no one tells you about it until it's too late. This is just one example. Don't mean to scare you, Riley! Just wanna keep it real.

@@movingtohawaii I'm a true city person, so I've never driven and I don't even have a driver's license. I was planning to see how long I can go without having a car and just using the bus or using a biki bike.

Is it cheaper to live closer or further from the military base?
@movingtohawaii
@movingtohawaii Жыл бұрын
Just depends what base and in which direction. Cost goes down as you go far away from the city as it does with most cities.

I'm wondering did anybody die of starvation because the price of the food
@movingtohawaii
@movingtohawaii 2 жыл бұрын
Hard to answer definitively on that one 💀 Are people stressed due to high prices of everyday necessities? Yes.
@markettradinggenius
@markettradinggenius Жыл бұрын
nobody dies of starvation on Oahu because there are too many places that serve the homeless meals 2 and 3 times per day/7 days a week. On top of that, there are too many fruit trees for ANYONE to starve....

I live in SE Alaska and just came back from visiting Oahu for the first time. Out of curiosity I went to a few grocery stores and have been watching videos like yours here. Most the costs are very close to here. I think the only big diffrence is our housing to purchase is a little less (I see in my area about 400-600k) and no HOA I know of here.And holy crap. I could buy a condo even right now and be fine with the morgage but most your HOA there want as much as the morgage payment! Rent prices are about the same and yea not very pet friendly here either, many people i know are moving back down south because they can't find housing or child care :(
@movingtohawaii
@movingtohawaii 3 жыл бұрын
Aloha Aubrey. Thank you for the comment. Like Alaska, but different in ways, you get the beauty of the land and surroundings that are worth the premium. We just have to be creative with the food prices and such and avoid HOA’s when it makes sense or find yourself in a well managed one when it makes sense.
