Im 33 and was a military kid. My dad was stationed at Schoffield Baracks from 1999-2002 and we lived in Waikele in Village on the Green. One of the very few black families in the neighborhood. Lots of great memories there. Thanks for the vid.

I just watched your review of the rail (we coming next month to take our daughter to UH and we might try the rail). I heard your reference to this video. So glad I watched. My grandparents were in Waipahu since the ‘60’s (My grandfather was born in town and my mom was born in Kailua). I spent most of my life visiting Waipahu. It’s changed over the years; but I still love it. We started going to Tanioka’s when it first opened in the late 70’s. Good fun, your videos and super informative.

PLEASE do more videos like this. I've watched all your videos, and revisited most of them for the third time. I just applied to USPS in Waipahu area, but there are other towns hiring too. I currently live in Boston, and would love more of your wholesome videos on ALL of Hawaii, like more folk stories and everything in-between. PLEEEEEEASE! MAHALOOO!!

Ayyy Les what village are you from? I’m from the village of Alameda. Jk jk. When k was stationed in alameda it was Tunu, drinks, ukuleles and guitars etc every night. I even had a Chamorro accent at one point just ask my pars si Reyes, Blas, etc

Sorry brah for delayed response - time zone diff this side of the water. From southern village of Humatak. Wow, you definitely got a Chamorro connect there, pretty cool. Just like you, I grew up mainland with the haole accent but for whatever reason my island accent just came natural. Your vids should be mandatory viewing for tourists (as well as a few residents, LOL).. you mentioned ukes, until recently, I was playing guitar for the popular Jesse & Ruby duet past 7 years (Outrigger and later Westin Resort).. Stay safe brother!

Accidently drove into the Koa ridge neighborhood & I was floored at how huge & nice the houses were. I bet its priced at a reasonable amount. You shouldve also showed Pu’uwai place. One of the newest houses near Golden Coin & Waipahu Pet Hosp.

Pu’uwai! You’re right, one of the newer places in this area. Koa Ridge has some promising plans, and as you mentioned, already has significant development. Time will tell how this new construction will play out in central Oahu.

These videos are super helpful and informative. You mention the traffic in Oahu and I was hoping you could provide some insight. I’ll be working near Pearl Harbor and am looking at a place in Waikele. In your experience, what is a typical drive time for that commute during weekday rush hour (5pm) traffic? Thanks again for these videos!
@movingtohawaii
@movingtohawaii 2 жыл бұрын
Typically, you're looking at 20-40 minutes during pau hana traffic. In some cases, this could be closer to an hour when there's a stalled vehicle, accident, construction etc. Even your morning commute during rush hour (6AM) could be similar. The main reason is because of the merge between Hawaii's two largest highways - H1 & H2. This merge is in between Waikele and Pearl Harbor so there's really no way around it. Maybe Kamehameha highway? Kam highway offers you an alternate route but tends to get equally congested during peak traffic hours. Mahalo for watching!
