A new ENGLISH rum! From the Cotswolds Distillery. A very limited edition annual release at less than 1000 bottles per year. Developed with the help of Michael Delevante from Wray and Nephew to create a Jamaican funk profile.

I read now that they have the new stills making whisky, which because of modern equipment and more effective mashing the new make comes out different, Cotswolds is using their old stills to make this rum. I believe they were using those small, hybrid stills which they make the gins, to produce their rums before but now that the big stills are in use we might see a lot more of this product which sounds delicious! I haven't tried it yet but I am now looking forward to it. Cheers Shane!

I think they were just switching between the old and new stills when I was there in April. I asked if they thought it would change the new make and they were very adamant that the new stills were the same shape just scaled up so it'd be exactly the same 😒 maybe they're right but I doubt it. The shape might be the same but they haven't scaled temperature, boiling points, heat transfer coefficients, gravity or a dozen other things! I think we will be seeing a lighter Cotswolds style in a few years. I'm sure it will still be good though. Cheers 🥃

Hi Shane. its fantastic review. im happy you are exploring great stuff for us. Cotswolds whiskies are well done and this Rum sounds is done in same way in craft style. your notes intrigued me enough to check online for this bottle. i visited their website and Cotswolds Treacle Rum is still in stock so i ordered it with 10% discount and free delivery. Happy Days 🤠. i belive its just begining of the Rum experience at Cotswolds and these small batches just test the market and make attention of spirit connoisseurs. hope they increase volume in batches, enlarge bottle to standard 0.7L and cross the fingers price will stays at current level. it would be great hear these news. @@WhiskyLockSuccess? No doubts! I really enjoy this rum. My 1st impression when i popped the cork out and sniffed it and the bottle was: its definitely a Rum but...the Funk as you said told me there is a second bottom. Its true, when i pour a dram and tasted it i felt like not drinking rum but whisky finished in good quality fresh/wet/1st fill rum.Nose and taste remind me Classic Laddie or Linkwood i bought recently from Cadenheads, something like that. I sampled 50ml to my rum fun mate and now juice in a bottle crossed neck level and rum became more rounded. Alcohol at 51% is very well integrated as the rum is 4yo+ its very balanced. Well done Cotswolds. Hope next releaae will be XO 6yo+ and 0.7l bottle. Cheers 🤠🥂🙋🏻‍♂️

Cheers for your review mate. Looks like a solid rum, competitively priced with a healthy ABV. Some good things happening in the rum world in the UK - I recommend you try out rums from the Scottish rum distillery, J. Gow. Their Fading Light and Revenge releases are both excellent imo and well priced. 🥃

Great review as always. I certainly enjoyed it and I'm certainly tempted to pull the trigger. I wish that bottle was a bit bigger though.

I have not had any Cotswolds Whisky or Rum yet. This does sounds very interesting though, too bad its a 500. I'm becoming a fan of Hampden Estate Rum. Cheers!

I have yet to try a cream sherry, seems like it would be a little too sweet. I really enjoy the drier style sherrys though. Althoug I have tried an Eifel German whisky that was aged in cream sherry casks and it was fantastic! Cheers!

Cream sherry certainly isn't popular at the moment (at least not with enthusiasts) with a real reputation for being crap Oloroso with a lot of added sugar, sold cheaply. Which is why I was surprised to see this matured in cream sherry casks. There are good examples to be found though. Cheers 🥃

Interesting, Shane, Nice notes...I haven't come across their rum yet but as a fan of the distillery & of several kinds of rum, I should like this I guess. Will see if it is listed in what they export here but so far I'm afraid it is not available in EU. Yep I tried some nice British Navy rums in the past, one you might like being the Ancient Mariner 10 yo (at TWE, from the Diamond distillery) bottled at a nice 54 % abv but as it is from Guyana not sure it fits into your today's topic...I forgot other ones names now, anyway nice take on rums there, Cheers !

I hope Cotswolds Rum finds its way to you eventually Greg. Although with these very limited runs it may be a while. Navy rum is very much its own category of rum but it is one I enjoy. Probably like many Brits, all my first rums were navy style rums. So I'll keep an eye out for your recommendation. Cheers! 🥃

@@WhiskyLock old habits die hard.. But some must die nevertheless.. All my bottles that I'm aiming to keep for more then a year I do put some parafilm on and have had issues with corks on shipping.. Still the plastic ones are not very sexy lol Cheers!

Interesting, but I do ask myself if I really need spirits like this. It's a bit like Indian whisky producers importing Scottish peated barley to make peated whisky. If it doesn't grow there, why not make something else instead of jumping through hoops?

Valid point. I'd love to see them make a new type of spirit using local ingredients. The obvious solution in this case would be a long fermented, barrel aged, sugar BEET 'molasses' based spirit. Would it taste the same? Nope, but I'd love to see someone try. The reason it probably won't happen is that they wouldn't be able to call it rum and convincing people to buy a 'Spirit drink' or some new type of spirit that they've never heard of is hard 🤷‍♂️

@@WhiskyLock That would also be my preference, but you're probably right in saying that very few people would buy it. The only county I can think of that has an established tradition of sugar beet spirits is the Czech Republic, and even that isn't widely known.

@@osirisgolad 🤩 ach Tuzemak, former name: Rum Tuzemsky. My teenage years many many years ago. I use to live close to Czech Republic border and use to drink it a lot. It was cheap but so good with very nice vanilla flavour. I drunk this rum on many occasions but mostly in mixers or add it to tea in winter time. It was time i have had no bloody idea what whisky rum or good spirit is. You brought here nice memories to me Cheers 🤠🥂🙋🏻‍♂️
