As someone with very little knowledge of either sport, my impression is that crossfit uses a lot of momentum and economy of motion, while gymnastics wants to make things as difficult as possible while requiring you to make it look beautiful and easy.

Similar to the difference between powerlifting and bodybuilding - where powerlifters distort their form and restrict range of motion to maximise weight moved, while bodybuilders are trying to exploit mechanical disadvantage to stimulate muscle growth.

Correct, because CrossFit is often for reps (most reps = winner) or for speed, so you gotta be able to get through the movements FAST

But you are mostly talking about the end game. Not sure about gymnastics but I know powerlifters and crossfit also train the steps of a full motion to address weaker parts which is still a major part of the sport. Power lifters for example may train the triceps part of a benchpress where they use resistance bands to just do the triceps part. Seen crossfitters do the same with their exercises

The support and motivation in the CrossFit community is amazing and anyone can start at any level. Runner who started CrossFit 2 years ago at 54. Best thing I've ever done. All my body pains are now "good" body pains. Quadrupled strength and coordination. Anyone who makes fun of CrossFit has never tried it. Love your channel.

I'm a crossfitter and can confirm you do have to be a little bit crazy to do CrossFit, you gotta really love the pain like you said haha! I'd be stoked if you picked up CrossFit, Nile. That would be such a fun journey to vlog about. I really enjoyed watching you learn figure skating (I was a figure skater for 17 years) and I think you have the ability to pick up a lot of new skills very quickly so it would be a really interesting video series if you kept up with it. I do think CrossFitters are the ultimate athlete because, like you said CrossFit covers all aspects of fitness and it's truly so hard to be good at literally everything. I don't know how the Games athletes do it, especially when the programming is always new/changing/a surprise and it's hard to prepare for; unlike say a decathlon where there's a lot of events but decathlon athletes at least know what all the events are ahead of time. PS. I absolutely adore Gymshark's Every Strong Belongs campaign!

As someone who has done neither of these, if you were to transition from Gymnastics to CrossFit II would recommend an interim step of doing the Starting Strength Novice Linear Progression to attack your weight lifting deficiencies first. Then you should kill it at CrossFit with your Gymnastics background.

As a crossfitter myself I have never seen anyone do handstand walks seemingly backwards, is that common in gymnastics?
@ianstratton1629
@ianstratton1629 8 ай бұрын
As a retired gymnast, we practice HS walking in all directions, including crab walking. It's more of a skillset that allows you to fight for skills while in handstand. There is no real reason to do it in a routine. But its a "basic" we all practice. Its like running. No one really runs backwards purposefully, but everyone knows/learns how to do it.

Nile you need to strengthen your hips. If you watch your lifts your knees cave in a little on your way up. Doing side steps with toes pointed straight ahead (no turnout) with a theraband loop around your ankles will help. You can also do them staying in a squated position .

So I'm not a sporty person. In school I hated sport and found every excuse to get out of it as often as possible. A few years ago a friend bugged me to go dancing (latin and ballroom) untill I caved. I was suprised that I didnt hate it. I actually came to like it. It was the first time I did a sport and enjoyed it. I went almost weekly for around 2 years but me and the friend drifted apart. I still miss it. Where I work now we can join a sports program if we want. I joined bc I know its good for me but I cant motivate myself do do it on my own. And I also joined a group that does training on equipment (I have no idea what the correct english word is, hope this makes sense) to build strengh. Over the summer both of those took a beak so I had like 6 or 7 weeks without sport. I was really suprised that I missed it. I dont really have fun duing it but I feel good after (well unless I get mucle aches). It also helps my mental health. Idk there is something about working out that makes you feel happy (or at least happier) and acomplished. Which is sometimes difficult to feel bc the chemicals in your brain dont work right whith depression.
