Ethiopia is a small country with huge potential. It is the only African nation to avoid the European colonization, has a huge population, and has the best geography in Africa. Ethiopia could very well become the African power of the future. So will it?

Dear people of Ethiopia, Hello, I’m an Egyptian Student in Cairo University. I see that many people think we Egypt want Ethiopia’s downfall and that we hate fellow Africans. This is not the case. We just want to ensure that we have drinking water as we already have water shortages in the country, and we wish you all the best. Hopefully we will reach an agreement God willing, and we will all advance forward hand in hand to stop human suffering

@@elnatabekele1020 even just limiting the flow of water is a disaster waiting to happen. The citizens of Egypt need nearly every liter of water that comes from the Nile either for drinking water or agriculture. If the Ethiopian government holds too much water back while they fill the reservoir, not enough water will make it to Egypt to sustain the population. This would result in a horrible famine and likely death sentence for millions on Egypt. The dam would be blown up long before that would happen though, but then there’s likely to be a war. The only way that Ethiopia can keep its dam, without the Egyptian government blowing it up to save the lives of its citizens, is to fill up the reservoir really slowly over the course of decades. The Ethiopian government doesn’t want to wait so long for a return on their investment, and that’s where the conflict arises from. Once the reservoir behind the dam is filled there will be no issues regarding the need to hold back water. Once the reservoir is filled, it becomes much easier to manage the water output from the dam to acceptable levels for the Egyptian government. That is, unless it’s discovered that they need to hold back a substantial portion of the Blue Nile just to prevent the reservoir from evaporating away, and decrease in volume, but there are other solutions for that.

As an Ethiopian I like how some people actually care and make videos on us and not stereotypically calling us hungry poor people, i see this is at the time being your most popular video, i am proud of my country and happy many people are interested in the history of Ethiopia, also Italy only occupied us during those 5 years otherwise we were raging guerilla warfare the whole time so they did not exactly control us, lol sometimes we Ethiopians say we waited until they built us railways and building and then kicked them out, in other words they only occupied us and they probably did not have full control over Addis Ababa and even if they did we probably were fighting in the mountains, that is why our geography is great like you said, nice video

Great video! A very long time ago I spent five weeks as a backpacker travelling across Ethiopia, up from the Kenyan border and then crossed the border into Eritrea (this was before the border war). I never realized how central the geography of the country was to its history until this video! It is an amazing country, and has so many unique features: a unique calendar, a unique way to tell time (to Ethiopians noon is 6 o'clock) and totally unique food. I would love to think it might be an economic powerhouse some day. And with the new port opening in Somaliland, its economic opportunities are growing!

As someone who grew up in Ethiopia, just wanted to say thank you for the in depth research you obviously put in and also for opening even my own eyes to interesting possibilities. Your analysis of growing populations and resulting ethnic sovereignty tensions shades interesting light on the Tigray war. Unfortunately, most of Africa might have to deal with similar issues as part of their "growing pains". Seems the central government's relentless advancement to economic progress and promise of a better life can be the most effective antidote. Diversity has always been a big source of instability for Africa in general. Eventhough the world at large struggles to comprehend what Diversity in a continent full of the same race of people. Language, culture etc... stuff that actually matters more than skin color.

@@grapesurgeon that's because most of the tribes lived in very isolated regions, causing micro evolution in their specific environment, often times with very little interaction with other tribes. This also implies a certain degree of imbreeding (as was the case for most of the world at some point) The argument of "most genetically diverse" is kind of a meaningless term, it does not say anything about who they are, what they look like, what that means and in fact the skin color can be very different between groups, the Neolote people for example are much darker than most other african people's.

@Obscure Wondering this is such a blind interpretation on race and ethnicity. "white people" and "black people" mean practically nothing when it comes down to it. thats just the american viewpoint because all of the european ethnicities were slapped together and all of the african ethnicities were forced together. you realise that racism from especially anglo ethnicities towards irish and italian ethnic groups were significant in both america and australia right? or that theres still racism between just the ethnic groups native to italy to this day? even in asia, the major ethnic groups of china, japan and korea (and yes each nation has their own diversity of ethnic groups) are distinct from each other and have come into conflict in the past. saying race isnt an issue because of your ignorance is not an argument, its an admission that you dont understand ethnic divisions in humanity on anything but the absolute most basic surface level.

what makes Ethiopia unique is that it has special place in both the bible and Islam. in the bible it has been mentioned 44 times. In Islam, prophet Mohammed warned his followers no to declare jehad in Ethiopia. The Christian state of Ethiopia has sheltered the followers of prophet Mohammed when the Muslims were persecuted by the mecca ruling classes. prophet Mohammed has told his followers to go to Abyssinia where everyone has lived in peace and harmony regardless of their religious difference. following his order, the first Muslim pilgrims arrived Aksum in 615 ad which is regarded by Muslim scholars as the first hijra. their enemies came too Aksum and offered to Chirstian king enormous amount of gold if he hands over the followers of Mohammed, but the king rejected his demand.

@@mulukenasfaw491Christ was born in an Ethiopian cave, Abraham was Ethiopian, Mohamed's family is from Ethiopia; this is at a time when Arabia was part of Ethiopia. The prophet was illiterate. Bilal who was a lawyer and not a slave, and he wrote the Quran. The prophete's other companion was the ambassador from Ethiopia to Arabia. The Christian pilgrimage first went to Ethiopia and not Jerusalem. It was changed to Jerusalem in 325 at the counsel of Nice; when the Roman Empire took over the "New Relegion" now known as Chtistianity. Geez or Ethiopic is the parent language of all the so called Afro-Asiatic languages. Hence, the Geez Alphabet is the foundation of the Greek alphabet by way of the Pheonicians, who originated from the Horn of Africa. The Sankrit of India, Hungarian, Armenian and Assyrian, Hebrew, Arabic etc. are all languages with Geez as their root or parent. In ancient times; the borders of Ethiopia was at China. Thus, according to Herodutus; India is Eastern Ethiopia. We can safely conclude, that Ham, Shem and Japhete were all Ethiopians. The Romans also mentioned the Ethiopians in West Africa. Last but not least, Andromeda who is considered the mother of the Persians is Ethiopian. Bramah's wife's name is Sarah as is the bibcal Abraham. Amah in India is just like the Dogon in West Africa or Amin among the Moslems and Amen among the Chtistians. Cush and Shiva are brothers according to Indian legends and it's a colony of Ethiopians who founded Kemit or Egypt 12,000 years years ago. The Italians had major cities like Addis, Dire Dawa, Axum, Mekele, etc but never dared go into the countryside where the Ethiopian resistance held the whole time. @@eliasziad7864 Abraha and King Najashi carry such a strong recognition in the Eastern world. Ethiopians stayed untouched for a long time because they have held their beliefs from day one. And Ethiopians believe Jesus will come back and unite the Muslims and Christians and other Faith's that accept his return. And a true Ethiopian knows he needs his brothers from the other Faith's to wield a special sword that comes to earth. And as long as Ethiopians keep their culture uninterrupted, they will be the ones to lead humanity against the Anti-Christ also known as Dajjal to the Muslim people. So while I respect your beliefs the end times are near. And the signs are already showing up. Ethiopia being invaded, Saudi Arabia becoming more like America and the 3rd sign is America collapsing. So the Ethiopians need to prepare and give their children heads up.

Out of everywhere in Africa to visit, Ethiopia is by far the first on my list. It looks so beautiful, the food is so good, and the people seem so welcoming and proud to share their culture. Hopefully once the coof restrictions die down, I can get to Ethiopia. I've always loved the way Amharic looks and sounds too.

great video but to add about Italians being there for five years _ they were never able to go beyond some cities, they were mainly in the capital _ outside the city everyone was fighting them. This is why we say we never colonized because though for the outside world especially for Europeans it looked like Italians were governing Ethiopia but from inside they never never.

Btw , speaking of African countries that shouldn't exist , will you do an episode or two analising at least some of those countries like their geography , their state , ethnic status , schances of survival , et. cetera , and in this case what do you think about Botswana ? Should it exist , will it survive ? What do you think ?

"The history of Ethiopia could also be called the history of humanity. The question is not if this history is well documented, but why it's not thought widely in school. The time necessary to study the tomes that refer to the Nubians as the forbearers of our civilizations is enormous. The world owes Ethiopia for its history, astronomy, agriculture & all the other sciences, & John G. Jackson gave ample references to validate this claim. Ethiopia's history is incredible & a treasure to the world & it's a shame that it has been distorted by the persistent Eurocentrism." [Ethiopia and the origin of civilization]

As an Ethiopian i love Egypt we have shared a history together like no other countries to each other. Our orthodox church and Islamic history is very linked. We have no problem each other but the Westerns are the one who want to create a conflict between us. Believe me or not if we don't stand and work together we can't stop Westerns influence over us.

you're wrong. the reason their is conflict is because ethiopia wants access to cheap energy by making a dam. the problem is egypts geography is horrible, and they depend on one river for their whole population. if ethiopia builds the dam, then egypt will have a huge humanitarian crisis

Am Kenyan and in my opinion Ethiopia should form a federation with us(Kenya). A lot of opportunities will be generated for our people. The highway from Nairobi to Addis Ababa should be expanded to a huge freeway and also have a fast train in operation between the two cities and a well connected infrastructure to the LAPSSET project in Lamu and Mombasa for exports and imports. Kiswahili language and Amharic can be taught in all schools within the federation. Afrikans should do away with all colonial languages. In the words of Malcolm X, it's only a fool that can allow his kids to be taught by an enemy. "Tuko pamoja milele daima."
