We must focus on peru and chile too. Saudi had almost a 1 month training camp, they put almost all their focus to taking care of Argentina, that they almost forgot they have got to play 2 more games as well. Hence, they did the tough job but failed to do the easy one. We also must put our focus on peru and chile since we have a much realistic chance of getting a result against them rather then argentina.

Argentina’s relentless pressure is very difficult for most teams to handle. Look how France fared for 80 minutes of the WC final. They were lost until Mbappé bailed them out with two penalties. If Canada makes one mistake in the back, they’ll get punished. The only positive for Canada is that it’s the first game, so even if they lose, they still have a chance. I hope Canada does well, but even Chile and Peru will be difficult for them. Focus will be key.

that argentina vs saudi arabia game was not a typical argentinian game for at least two reasons: 1. the refs invalidated like 3 argentine goals due to millimeter offsides from VAR, which should not be allowed and I didn't see those kind of offside calls on any other team in that world cup (if the offside isn't visible to the eye of the ref, it's not an offside since it does not give the attacking player an unfair advantage/lead), 2. the saudi arabia game was the first ever world cup game for the young players of argentina (enzo fernandez, julian avalez, etc.) so they were very nervous to say the least. By the way, Saudi arabia lost their other two world cup games against poland and mexico. not far fetched to say the saudi's got a little help from the refs in that game against argentina in the 2022 world cup Qatar.

“Imagine Canada would’ve drew the tournament opener against Belgium rather than lost, it would’ve been night and day”… Alex, that narrative makes 0 sense. Saudi Arabia was literally on cloud 9 after beating Argentina in opener just to turn around and lose to both Poland and Mexico.

Saudi’s game plan against Argentina was to man-mark Romero and Paredes, force them to play through Otamendi and De Paul as the outlets who are bad ball progressors. I believe Argentina would have destroyed Saudi if Lisandro started ahead of Otamendi, and if one of Macca/Enzo started ahead of Lautaro so De Paul could push higher up as an attacking midfielder/RW which he is more suitable for. IMO, any team can beat Argentina as long as Otamendi continues to start, and sometimes Acuna will play as well making them even more vulnerable in the buildup phase, Australia used the same man-marking scheme as Saudi and it almost paid off. Plus the recent game against Brazil, where all 3 of Acuna, Otamendi and De Paul were vulnerable to being pressured.

Yes, the secret is, score more than your opponent. Some days you can’t buy a goal and others all three chances hit the back of the net. Let’s hope for the other day.

With the mentality of Canada not happening. We need to set up defensively and work with what they give us. We can't have Larin on the field at the same time as David. We need fasters defenders. And we sure can't play 3 in the back. We are not a world class team. 4 or even 5 in the back at all times. The reason why many teams shock the good teams. They play defence not offence. We need to look to Italy vs France for the Italy mentality.
@Total_football_enthusiast2 ай бұрын
Part of the problem is the individual level of the defenders are so bad. The way Miller was getting turned inside out in 1v1s against T&T, and the awful gap-control from Waterman was embarrassing. Good luck trying to defend against De Paul and Lo Celso playing like that!

13:58 An 'experienced Peru team' is precisely why we need to bring our experienced players. Peru and Chile's experience at this tourney is no small thing. If we think we're going to find success by bringing inexperienced, youthful talent, we are deluding ourselves. Canada has plenty enough youthful talent to get the better of these squads without dumping everyone over 30 in favor of young talent with zero experience on the international stage. Come on, guys, I know you understand this. Who out there is bold enough to suggest that Russell-Rowe should come to this tourney over Junior Hoilett?
@kevonsuckoo28152 ай бұрын
That’s some bullshit. Our experienced players were the reason we did bad at the World Cup at this first place. That fact is there simply just not at the level anymore I’m not bringing someone who sits on the bench at club all day and is 35
@dalmacija322 ай бұрын
@@kevonsuckoo2815 Exactly.
@greglawrence92302 ай бұрын
@@kevonsuckoo2815 I don't know who you're talking about that is 'sitting on the bench' all day, but if you really think Canada did 'bad' at the World Cup then we're certainly measuring reality quite differently. Are you seriously suggesting Russell-Rowe would have performed better than Hoilett against Belgium, Croatia and Morocco? Is that truly what you think?
@kevonsuckoo28152 ай бұрын
@@greglawrence9230 JRR is not making the copa squad let’s be real. We’re talking about guys like Nelson , Choinere , bair and others who are red hot on form who deserve these chances . Also you know Victoria was the one show let in all our goals at the World Cup, borjan gave the ball away against Morocco and atiba was literally a still pylon for all 3 games
@greglawrence92302 ай бұрын
@@kevonsuckoo2815 You know, I think you might want to go back and look at the goals scored against us in the WC. I'm not really sure which of them you're pinning on Vitoria? Belgium's goal was because Laryea was out of position, keeping Batshuayi onside. Perhaps you'd point to Morocco's 2nd goal, but you might just as easily say Miller was too slow in that case. Look, those goals are all because better teams were beating us, not because Vitoria is inept. Vitoria is painfully slow, yes, but speed is not the only variable in the position he plays. Who are you suggesting is better in his role than he is? Is there anyone who can point to, or does it not matter? 'Red hot form' in Norway's league or MLS does not necessarily translate to the world stage. Atiba was a pylon? He came within an inch of scoring and getting Canada a result against Morocco. You know why he was playing for Canada in the midfield? Because nobody younger was as capable. That's why. Again, do you really think Choiniere would have been more effective? Come on. I can appreciate a desire to see young talent come up and perform but you don't just throw away highly capable players before someone can come up and prove they can do better. I'm not sure why we'd be so sure JRR won't be invited to the 'squad of the future' in Copa America (if we're taken there by Biello) since he was selected instead of Hoilett in the most important must win match Canada has ever played.

Don't dream, with due respect S.A. would lose 9 out of 10 games vs. Arg, it was just a bad day for the team, could happen and it did, that's all, the team it's "almost" a machine, but it's not.

I hope Canada will play very aggressive. I would rather see Canada attack and lose, than see them on the defence and lose.

Argentina is an interesting case study. Needed to win their last group game by 6 goals to reach the knock out round in their home WC in 1978. And they did.

Argentina es una potencia historica, estamos hablando de una seleccion top 3 a nivel mundial e historico. Es papá del 98% de las selecciones de todo el mundo, se han cansado de meter goleadas tras goleadas a lo largo de toda la historia

*leans in close* shhhh...the secret is bribery
@Total_football_enthusiast2 ай бұрын
Lmao. Even if Canada bribed the refs they wouldn’t be able to play the fluid and relentless attacking football that Argentina displayed against Netherlands, Croatia and France. It’s hilarious like you talk down a world champion when the players on their own country cannot even string together 4-5 passes in succession.

@Total_football_and_relationism I guess I should have been more specific; my comment was in reference to the question of what can Canada learn from Saudi Arabia's win over the eventual Champs at the World Cup. And, no, it wasn't serious, even though we all know how corrupt FIFA is and how SA takes advantage.

Money, you need money to beat Argentina. 5 penalties in 7 games for Argentina, come on! 2016 Messi cried after losing against Chile 😭 "I can't win anything..." Since this time FIFA mafia acted, 3 additional Copa America to Messi to win this trophy and then the World Cup before he says goodbye football...

Your comment is so stupid, it really shows you know nothing. Argentina started the WC as Copa América champs and beat Italy the European champs, and they were 2nd in the qualifiers and they had a winning streak of more than 30 games undefeated before the start of the WC. They scored 4 goals against Saudi, one disallowed by mistake, 2 on a defending Mexico, 2 on Poland who didn't take a single shot, 3 on Croatia, where Croatia had one shot at most. And the final? France didn't touch the ball for 80 minutes, I've never seen anything like that in a WC final. That game should have ended 3-0 if it wasn't for Scaloni's mistakes. They are currently #1 in WC qualifiers, they are the best!☝️😎🇦🇷
