@@grimreapers What scenario would show how Ukraine could best use 40 F-18s? Sounds like US greenlighted Australia transferring them. No idea what model they are.
@stupidburp
@stupidburp Жыл бұрын
Best use of Hornets or Super Hornets would be dispersed in the East and South of Ukraine, operating from rough, damaged, or austere airfields with their reinforced frames and strong gear and side intakes. Upgrade Hornets with Super Hornet radar as the USMC did. Missions would be a combination of air to air and air to ground plus eventually some patrols over the Black Sea. Crimean unsinkable aircraft carrier in the future. In the near term they would be mostly used as wild weasels to destroy remaining Russian air defenses inside Ukraine. HARM + MALD + JASSM + JDAM trucks with enough AMRAAM and AIM-9 to keep flankers mostly inside Russia.

Mod a B-1R with a super AESA Radar. It's got a large nose that could probably accommodate it. I recall a series of books by Dale Brown Inc. Flight of the Old Dog, which introduced the concept of highly modded Battleship Bombers. A B-2 modded to launch AIM-260 (?) by data link could provide large area Air Dominance, whilst being undectable
@stupidburp
@stupidburp Жыл бұрын
B-1B already has been upgraded with SABR AESA radar. Essentially a super sized version of the radar in newest F-16s. Should be capable of supporting new AIM-54 variants if they reentered production. B-1R would likely have the same radar or better if built. Any of the old phoenix missiles used on F-14 are probably expired by now. Currently I think that Iran is the only country producing them, in their local copied variants.

I love the B-ONE! Its my dads plane. He was a wind tunnel technician with Rockwell International when the B was being tested for deployment. I have a picture of my dad working on a scale model as they were testing supersonic airflow over the open bomb bay. I also have several operation manuals for some of the testing as well as a general manual for the wind tunnel. The B-ONE will always have a place in my heart!

Matrix, the speculation is that the F-16As for Ukraine will come from the Netherlands, Denmark, and Norway, to be refurbished by Belgium. There's a new modification to the Rapid Dragon program that attaches a rocket booster to a carrier that contains JDAMs to give them a tremendous boost in speed and glide range. After boosting the bombs release from the carrier and glide to preset targets. Could you make a version in DCS? It'll allow longer range cheaper strike capability. Supposedly it triples the glide range to 120NM It's essentially a bomb shotgun

I'd love to see how the F-111c [Australian version] would perform if you bring it up to the spec that was planned before they were scrapped. I've heard™ that with the engines it would have got [and that one was tested with, from what I'm told] that they no longer knew what the thrust-based max top speed was because the new limit was thermal from friction. Cap, would you consider a match in which teams of players form a "nation" and are given a budget, then allowed to procure whatever weapons they like within the budget and then battle it out? It would be interesting to see what missiles, aircraft and air defences players would choose on a "fantasy" team... Or if any of them would choose to spam hundreds of cheap stuff instead. Perhaps let them chat (and lie, mislead) about their choices beforehand and then only unveil the choices when the match is set up, or when they encounter it...

I understand there is a natural preference for full fidelity planes, but when you're doing a mission where you need to carry a bunch of AMRAAMs while also carrying enough fuel to keep up with a B-1 bomber, I don't get why you don't use the F-15C. F-15C carries almost as much fuel with no bags as an F-16 does with 3 bags. Just adding the center bag to an F-15C gives it almost 3,500 pounds more fuel than a fully laden F-16, and it can tote a couple more AMRAAMs, too. Just seems like a better choice when the mission is air-to-air.

Even if an S-300 or S-400 can shoot down a JDAM-ER, the unit cost I can find for the JDAM-ER or $35k. The SAM missiles that would be used to take them out maybe up to 100x more. That is, if the opponent fires such missiles at a JDAM-ER, you win, regardless of if you hit your target or not. Quantity can have a quality all on it's own.

I wonder if these cheaper JDAMs could be used in a first wave to deplete modern opposing SAM sites before the more expensive, more sophisticated modern stuff is used to actually strike the targets. Any older ones that do get through are a bonus I suppose. I only say this because from what I have observed from previous scenarios, most missiles (and aircraft for that matter) are blocked early on until through attrition, the opposition end up running short on their defensive missiles. Just a thought...
