Most times, a skin rash is a skin rash. But sometimes, if the skin condition comes out of nowhere, and if it does not respond to treatment, it could be a sign that something else is going on.
And that something could be lymphoma.
My guest today is Dr. Peter Lio, a Clinical Assistant Professor of Dermatology & Pediatrics at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine.
He received his medical degree from Harvard Medical School, completed his internship in Pediatrics at Boston Children’s Hospital, and his Dermatology training at Harvard where he served as Chief Resident in Dermatology. While at Harvard, he received formal training in acupuncture.
Dr. Lio has written a textbook on Integrative Dermatology and has published over 100 papers.
Join us as we discuss whether your skin rash could be a sign of lymphoma.
SHOW NOTES:
• Can a rash start off as one thing, but become something else?
• How can you tell whether a rash might be an indication of something else?
• Why swollen lymph nodes should be assess by your doctor
• What is a lipoma?
• Could chronic hives be a sign of cancer?

For 2 years I've been trying to get help with my wild, painful, ugly skin rash--only on one side of the face. I was told repeatedly that it was just rosacea. Yes, I have had rosacea for many years and it wasn't that bad. No treatments helped except for cortisone cream--but it came back worse after 5 months. Finally, a new dermatologist finally found that I have a T-cell lymphoma because of a cyst which wasn't a cyst-it is a tumor. I'm just at the beginning so I don't know what type of cutaneous T-cell lymphoma but I'm hoping I haven't gone too long before finding out what I really have. So far no lymph nodes have been found to be involved. Thank you for presenting this!!!

my daughter has overnight developed a rash on her legs, arms, and hips. Thought it was hives at first but it would not go away with Benadryl or steroids. then developed random weird bruises, swollen non painfurl lymph node in armpit. Tingly feet, and a wound that has not healed in over 2 months normal CBC but very high monocytes and eosinophils. She is desperately seeking a diagnosis as she is miserable .

I have a horrible hand rash that goes away with steroid cream, then I think it’s fine, and then it comes back(3years now) also swollen lymph nodes in my neck(5 years now), new symptoms are extreme fatigue, neck feels swollen and sore, itchy neck, loss of appetite, nausea, vision changing frequently(which causes headaches, prescription doubled in a year, just got new glasses two months ago and already needing new glasses), no night sweats though, blood work is all fine… Ct scheduled for Monday, everything keeps making me think I might have lymphoma… 🤷🏼‍♀️ I guess we will see..
