I would love to see a video on womens clothing. I have done some research on 16th century Irish womens clothing but it would be very interesting to see something about earlier.

Good to see this one again. I'd personally like to see more videos on clothes in depth. For example I am very interested in the léine. We're familiar with the fancy big ones in the 16th century, but the older examples are just long tunics with regular sleeves, right?

As far as the 1/4 length pance goes I believe women used to find calf muscles attractive or they were a sign of your virility if you had good strong Calf! I might be way off but I read that somewhere!

Irish women's cloths please do!! So hard to find anything pre 1400's !

Great informative video thanks a million!! Do have to say though on the shoes that I think the effect spikes on your shoes would have in a combat situation would be minimal. Take rugby for example they have studs on their shoes but are still highly mobile and agile and while it isn't martial art fighting it isn't far off 😂 also I would presume they would prefer when possible to have that extra tiny bit of protection on their feet

Per the thing about helmets and "showing the face" I do SCA, and when I was contemplating fighting, I realized I hate that same sentiment- "I want you to KNOOOOOWWW who youre fighting (and whos kickin your ass)". But we re all very much exposed to Hollywood depictions (a very prevalent catalyst for "I wanna DO this") But Hollywood storytelling requires that we be able to *recognize* actor faces/characters, esp in a battle scenario, where if you arent used to a couple acres of hundreds of dudes who all look the same- you cant tell who anyone is. We dont live in an era where ppl are accustomed to recognizing even heraldry real well, even when...thats often the point of heraldry for fighters. Also, I had a very involuntary fear reaction to wearing a helmet, esp in a violent scenario. My friend put me in his grill-front so I could experience head-shots (also a reason I quickly LOST my interest in fighting)- that was when the thought "if my head gets bashed in- I want somebody to be able to SEE the blood on the back of my head". Subconscious of course, the *reason* we wear helmets, but it was a similar involuntary reasoning to why I dont ride sit-in roller coasters. "My head is in *danger*..." and in this case, somebody may not see it. We also live in an era of "detecting danger is all about visibility", and helmets are NOT as second-nature. Just driving motor vehicles, we are very 360 degree range-of-vision people on a daily basis. We see helmets as "big strong fighter dude, needs a head-tank" but again, its very Hollywood/portrayal-of-strength- until you realize how much it affects your vision scope. Im sure fighters of period were far happier to have their heads protected by a heavy metal bucket, as long as they felt they had a fair shot at seeing the bloke youre trying to hit/whos trying to hit you.
