TOOL songs have something special and I do not know what is. Perhaps it is the combination of its lyrics with the rhythm patterns.
@addisonshinedown
@addisonshinedown 7 жыл бұрын
Leonardo C it's the rhythm patterns. Especially when the band is playing polyrhythmically (the guitar is in a different time signature than bass and vocals which is a different time than drums) which happens pretty often in tool songs. Actually, the drummer himself plays in 2 or 3 different signatures pretty often on his own...
@User-xw6kd
@User-xw6kd 7 жыл бұрын
Leonardo C It's the clever use of polyrhythms I believe.
@knapton118
@knapton118 5 жыл бұрын
I would say that it's not just the complexity of the rhythms, it is how fuckin organic they are. They don't have a forced feel like other prog bands, you can tell it isn't complex just because the band wants to show off, the music just happens to be complex even if you don't fuckin know it. Sometimes I'll really study a Tool riff and it'll just click that a certain part is not in 4/4 but it feels as normal as 4/4, even with a transition. The complexity always fits the music and their songs end up being the masterpiece production of the well-oiled machine that is Tool.

Not to talk shit but that parts not hard at all so many beginners should be able to play it but, keep up the good work I guess not trynna put you down. I just dont like how everyone here is being so fakely supportive.🤷‍♂️ The compostion of the song is complex but the first 2 minutes of the bass line isnt at all. Genius is not always about how simple or hard something is to play on the bass but the beauty of the line in the song and what it brings. Im telling you this cuz I'm being real with you. I've been playing for a shorter amount of time than you but I play atleast 6 hours a day usually more especially with this corona shit so im pretty intense with my practice this shit isnt a joke to me I'm immersed and I'm growing fast but remember the hard part isnt just the playing but actually being on time and creation of the line. Especially if you wanna incorporate flavor besides root notes but we find our spots when we can do so. Maybe you just jam or play at home so I apologize in that case I would be being to intense and that. I plan on doing this as a career and if you plan on doing so you gotta be badass and know your shit. Have a good day sir keep rockin.🤘

It's the worst feeling in the world being on stage playing a phrase wrong, believing that you're correct, and having a bass player come up to you afterwards and say hey man...

+Chase Pendleton he needs a five string bass for that. he can do metropolis tho, its played on a 4 string bass
@chasependleton1161
@chasependleton1161 8 жыл бұрын
+J Venturella you only need the five string for the intro so what he could do is tune his bass for the intro, record that, and then re tune it for the rest of the song and record that part. Just a thought, I have no clue if that would work

Anyone have any tips on the fingering at 1:07? My hand just doesn't want to stretch that far. :-(

Did you ever get it? I took his lead and used my ring finger on the top position (8th fret) and from there I was able to adjust to the pattern. My personal problem is jumping into the position while playing the song. My pinky wants to try to take the position by default, so retraining my hand is part of this experience. :)
