Tips And Comments:
- Playing Technique:
Played between pickups with dynamics changes according to the song (some parts with less strength). Played with a pick. All pickup volume knobs at full. For the solo i cut down one knob and used the other one to increase the volume in every note, creating a volume swell
- Gear Sound:
Added a good amount of high end (treble), a little of mid frequencies and a good amount of bass too. I tried to get a similar tone with old strings and my bass. I know it's not perfect
For the solo added an octave pedal or whammy, overdrive, a little flanger and delay. This and the use of swelling technique do the trick
- About The Song:
There are a lot issues with this song, so feel free to comment and i'll attend your case
Need more tips? Just comment!

I have to say, you're a goddamn hero, man. I love this song, so after I bought my bass and learned a few songs I decided to learn this. The beginning was pretty easy, but with all the time changes, and the audio of the song covering most of the bass, I couldn't get the rest. Other tabs just looked a hot mess with no context. Watching you play, pausing a few times to slowly repeat certain sections by myself then comparing to you, you made it easy. Less than an hour, and now those "tough" parts from the middle on don't look so out-there anymore. I can play each section fairly well in such a short time, and now I just have to work on getting more consistent, being able to transition from one section to another, and then memorize it all. You really did help me out, thank you.

CoverSolutions hey man just curious. After the intro, when you are playing 0-10-12 on your lower D (I specify namely because I believe for pretty much all TOOL songs including this one on your channel, i believe it's virtually always Drop D Tuning correct?) What you're playing is, and correct me if im not, i WANT to say a triple note hammeron..? You hit the open D, then hammer on the 10th and then 12th fret yea? And, again SOLEY based on what little I can gleam here since it's played so fast lol But you're also doing so in such a way that you let go of 10 JUST after you hammeron 12 Right? I'm really namely curious bc like isaidits so fast even at .25% playback speed I can hardly tell what you're doing there lol I've tuned my bass to.drop d, bc I like having the extra d string for.my playing style anyway Also, i ask bc. Yea I'm a newbie just still learning a lot but I CAN hit hammerons, and i do kinda have trouble when the frets aren't right next to each other cause I haven't developed much range yet lol but I AM capable of hitting 10, then 12, on that string perfectly. Problem is, i can't seem to get it to sound Right? Maybe it's bc ive.kinda got a sorta funk style to how i play, and i just need to do it a bit different? Or idk. Granted I only have a Yamaha electric bass atm, not too say it's a bad instrument it's one of the better basses Yamaha makes and all. So its a good bass, and everything else comes.out with the Exact same sound you're producing but that DAMNED hammeron! SO yea. Any advice? :) Btw LOVE YOUR CONTENT keep it.up man and rock on!
@AtomicTridium

CoverSolutions dunno if everything is covered in the video description but I thinnk I MAY see part of the reason I'm getting such an off tone. But it's ONLY off on the hammeron and nothing else tho??? Just.an. update to.my question:)
@twinborn6028
@twinborn6028 6 жыл бұрын
SriffMeister ok. Ik this is late but what I do and what he does is this. MAKE SURE it is a fluid solid motion first of all. You hammer on the 10 and then jam down on the 12th super fast. 10= Index finer, and the flick to 12 = Ring finger. And then very fastly after hitting the twelve move you index down to the 10th fret on the G string. And yes tuning is DADG foor almost every Tool song

This one in particular is a really good example of how they don't really use time signature the same way as more generic music. It really only exists here to help you understand when learning. A lot of this song could be transcribed in 4/4 without losing much, but the downbeats would be all over the place and no one could understand it.

I know this is old BUT remember anyone learning this song can even easier by slowing the video down. This guy makes learning much more simple than the other guys so with slowing the vid down a little i was able to learn the song MUCH quicker. Thanks again youre my GO-TO for bass

Great playing! I’ve always said the bass player gets over looked too much. I love Tool. The use of polyrhythms the bass used as a lead instrument. They show how important a bass is in a band. Justin Chancellor and Danny Carey are one of the best bass drum combos ever. You can’t forgetter Paul D’Amour either. Once again great playing!

wow. love this video. thanks so much for doing this song. its been a tough but to crack for me for a very long time. The notation with the rotating time signatures helped. There were also a few nuances of the middle section I was not getting quite right and it would wreck my timing. Thank you for ending my confusion.

Chris Kounterstrike nah, m8. it all gets down to practice. Practice the fingerings at a slower tempo till you automize (or is it automatize?) it. Then start increasing the tempo. Do finger warm-up excercises and somesuch too, lad
