I was walking in the cemetery and I noticed a coyote lying down in the grass watching my dog and I. As we walked away, it got up and started following us. It kept on following until I scared it away.

I had this happen a couple of weeks ago while my terrier and I hiked in Cuyahoga National Park. 2 coyotes walked in front of us on the trail. I picked up a big stick and tried to sound meaner than I probably accomplished as a mild mannered mom. They looked at me, then walked on. I was freaked. My terrier was oblivious. She never had any idea they were near, no idea how.

I have a dog that lives to hunt. He will interact with other dogs in play, but looses interest quickly and goes back to hunting. Young maverick coyote was chasing and nipping my dog and then it became thrust and parry in chasing each other off. My dog thought it was play, but soon tired of it and went back to hunting squirrels. Soon the coyote caught on to the hunt and they began to work together with my dog as lead. We met up for several days and the hunt continued. Then a second larger coyote joined the maverick. The maverick just watched as the other coyote went up to my second elderly dog only a yards from me. It sidelled up and calmly tried to take him by the neck. I snapped at the coyote, "what are you doing". It looked at me and trotted off. The maverick clearly has moved on beyond attacking my dogs and did not enter the frey. Haven't seen either one since, about 2 months. I carry a ground rod, but didn't need it. The hunter will not chase off after them if I call him back. I start calling my hunter Reno when he first started chasing g the maverick up the coolie. If your dog chases after a coyote, he might just not make it back.

@@BruceCausier Glad you posted this. Your advice about running is spot on as it reinforced weakness. Running does tire you out, creates tunnel vision and gets your focus off the threat. After all, your the one being hunted so your at a disadvantage. Wile E is so persistent!!!

Coyotes are pack animals. Where there's one there are more.

I take my tee ball bat and swing it wildly while chasing the coyotes. Hell they are supposed to be afraid of us, not the other way around.

Sophie is all “But I can take it Dad!!!” Be careful. They’ve been known to follow people home and stake out the backyard waiting for the dog to be alone there.

coyotes are not harmless best to carry a large stick or gun. they will attack your dog and even you 8f you let them near enough.

Scary... I don’t think a Coyote would mess with you if you were walking a big dog like a Doberman or German Shepherd. I know Coyotes try to avoid Wolves in the wild.

It's getting dark and you're walking a small dog in the grounds of a cemetery, knowing that there's wildlife in the area. Not very smart, is it?

That coyote is not going to attack something as large as a human. I live out in the country and coyotes around here won't show themselves like that. It would be fatal for them if they did and they know it. Urban coyotes know that people won't harm them. They only attack when they know they have the advantage.
@LadyMaven Жыл бұрын
Not true, they do and have. We had a rather large pack of them living around our ranch.

People feeding them is why they are losing their fear of humans. It's very dangerous an stupid thing to do.
