Chester is pure joy. Good doggo.

We have a chocolate lab, and she had the same issue. We would let her heal up and then any type of activity she would hurt it again and back to limp. We ended up taking her to the vet, and she had a torn ACL. They did surgery on it and told us theres a 50% chance she will tear her other acl, and 2 weeks later she did. So 2 ACL surgeries later, she is back to normal. I think this is what Chester has. Its tough for a month, but they get all the way back to normal after recovering from the surgeries. I’m not a gorgeous dog but I’m an old woman with pain with an old dog with pain. Warmth helps with the aching…I have a magic bag (it’s cloth filled with beans or rice ) and I warm it up for my dog(and myself) and place it over a towel when they are lying down and it helps keep them comfy.Usually tears benefit from heat.You could also put a heating pad on low under the dog under some blankets too. The cold is the worst for ligaments.Hope Chester is better soon ❤

We have a camp up in northern Maine, I remember it getting so cold at night that you would hear what you thought were gunshots in the middle of the night. In reality it would get so cold that the moisture and sap inside the trees would freeze and expand forcing the trees to blow out which sounds like a gunshot. You would also not want to be near those trees when one exploded as the wood shards would definitely Pierce anything they hit

My dog had a torn MCL and had TPLO surgery. It was expensive but well worth it. She was 7 years old at the time and lived another 7 years. Hope Chester gets better and love the videos.

I have a pit red heeler mix who is a big boy and awhile back he started limping. He was eating a Tractor Supply grain free dog food at the time. After some research, I started feeding him Diamond Naturals Lamb and Rice with some Organic beef bone broth (no salt added) poured over it and a half patty of Instinct raw beef dog food patties (complete with bone, organ and muscle meat) and he is now running around and acting like a spring chicken. Worth a try if your dog has joint issues.

Have you looked into hydrotherapy for Chester? It’s meant to be good for them as it’s less strenuous on their joints. Also joint supplements come in different strengths so maybe that’s something to look into as well.

Rear leg is probably a CCL tear. You need an MRI. Very treatable.

You and Joelle should take Chester in and have his ACL checked out. My one lab has had both acls done.

First time viewer. Sad to see the pup with a bad leg to not have a spot in the caboose in the sled train. He seems to mind you well. Bet if he had a sled to himself with a padded bottom and a treat he’d stay in the whole way. I have a 17 yr old Morkie who rides in the backpack on my back when we’re out on the trails…and in lenient stores. Have a backpack I carry on my front with whatever I’d need if I found myself in a sticky wicked. BTW- I subbed 😃

Similar to what Jeff said. I have a chocolate lab mixed with Chesapeake Bay Retriever. He was limping for a while and the vet said he has almost tore his ligament. They told us to let him rest but he started to run and fully tore his one ligament. He had surgery and the vet said it was a 50% chance he will tear the other which he did. After both surgeries he has been fine. But he is getting older now so he doesn’t run much anymore. Definitely worth getting looked at!

Hope Chester recovers completly. The noise you heard during the night was from the ice on the lake. It will sound like a bomb went off as it cracks and shifts. Hard to sleep when your in a Ice fishing shack on a big body of water and it booms every ten or twenty minutes LOL

I’m suspicious Chester has a torn cranial cruciate aka ACL in humans. Common in large breed dogs but my chihuahua tore both of them! Exercise aggravates it. Surgery following kennel rest fixed her right up! Hope you find out soon what’s bothering Chester. I love him! He’s a great dog!

Always wear rubber boots, the griddle, never leave home without it! don't forget the heavyduty aluminum foil. The limp is for sure a re-injuring of a previous tear or something. If you let Chester run freely, it will reinjure every time, my boy has the same problem, the limp will go away in a few days. I walk him daily now on a leash or he injures himself every time.

Make sure u watch out with chester around beaver dams and houses and muskrat houses. They like to dig in them and that's a way they can end up getting blastomycosis with is not a good thing I've lost a few dogs to that.

Chocolate labs are more likely to suffer from bad hips than other labs. Hip and joint supplement chews are worth researching

Hey, we went through this as well with our heeler/collie cross. Switched to raw diet and synovial joint chews every day, she's 13 now and keeps up with our 2 year old Malinois and hasn't had issues since. I realize it's a big switch, but you will see the changes after you get through the detox phase etc. Hit me up if you want to chat more about it! Been running the raw for 7 years now. You'll have to stop running him for a while though for it to heal.

Chester needs an orthopedic L-XL Serta dog bed. If you can find him one anymore… Ugh. They were so nice and such a great Sam’s Club find in 2018.

Chester is just like my chocolate Tucker , never wants to drink clean water if there a mud hole close by lol. That snapping turtle shell was neat, we don't have turtles in this area. Tucker also has an issue occasionally that after a hard walk or walking in snow seems to irritate him I'm thinking because the snow sometimes is unstable and he also ends up limping and I have to force him to take a down day and not walk him , he does not like that lol. Hopefully Chesters heals soon. The drools looks familiar too when theres food around lol.

Possible ACL . My boy had same symptoms and had both ACL's replaced.

Suggestion - get yourself a cleaver style knife with a really thin blade. They're easy to sharpen and are actually safer for cutting veggies and things. Also, same thing happened to my Chocolab. Was the dog equivalent of an ACL.

When I was young we had a dog who injured his back leg and he developed arthritis in that leg and favored it when he was really active. I wonder if that's what Chester has. (For the record, our dog lived a long happy life despite the arthritis)

Hey Adam - great vid, as usual. Sorry to see Chester in some discomfort! We have a 3 year-old male Chocolate, 100lbs. At 1.5 years, he was limping and it turned out to be front elbow dysplasia. If you can, I’d have a canine orthopedic specialist look at it with an ultrasound or even better MRI. Rule it out, hopefully. I’m sure it’ll be fine soon, but I hate to see him limping like that 😞

I had exactly same thing happen to my dog I was so worried but if you try your hardest to keep them off it it took like two months or more to heel but one day just stopped limping thank god I think it might of been a toe but exactly same thing didn't know what it was hip or knee but keep them of it as much as possible

How do you clear the smoke out of the tent when you’re loading the stove? I have the same wood stove and everytime I open it to load it, I’ll get smoke that comes out.
