The CASO train(CP TE21) would spend quite abit of time finishing up the switching rail cars out of our sight before showing up at Hewitt Road just off the west end of the Canadian Pacific Welland Yard.
Before the CASO train can journey down the largest active remaining part of the formerly known CASO Subdivision
It must first come off the Welland Yard siding track and onto the CP Hamilton Sub mainline past Hewitt Road railroad crossing in Wainfleet, Ontario.
While waiting on the otherside of Hewitt Road the ground crew flip the switches on the mainline over to the former CASO Subdivision.
The Crew then flag and protect the Hewitt Road crossing so the CP CASO Train can now back on the CASO Spur line.
Once all the tracks have been realign to normal locking position the CASO train is now ready to make it's way down the Old CASO line.
The CASO train will go the slowest speed possible and take the rest of the night to reach Port Maitland it's final destination and last job for the night.

I'm still pretty new to Niagara Region, but you get a wided eye perspective of why so much of the trackage has been torn up throughout Southern Ontario. While some new tracked appeared to be laid. So much has been taken out. Looking at an Old map of Niagara Peninsula from 1930s shows 5 mainline now only really 2 exist today built on fragments of the 5 old mainlines. This is the only piece that still uses the name CASO. There is still 2 active tiny piece used as industrial leads in welland. The other chunk is about 50% torn out and doesn't look like it has been used for sometime. It Nameless afaik, but CASO line it was. The railway nowadays is not about speed, but about cost saving. Thanks for the comment!

I never really expected to ever catch anything here, because when I heard the times the trains ran on the CASO it simply did fit the time I had available. However I had miracle on this day and when my whole day open up with no kids or work. I was also lucky I had Matt the Railfan coached us with the various operations in the area. Anyways Tuesday and Friday are the caso nights. When I was there they left fairly late around 7pm I think, but you might want to be there earlier just in case. Also when they do leave they don't go very fast. I booked it almost right away to Dunnville, but then I waited around 2hours for them to show up. In reality I would have been safe to catch them at a few other crossing if I hadn't panicked. Anyways some trains are just really hard to catch.Good luck!

@@Trains4Fun Thank you for the info on train times. It does make for a rather difficult catch at that time of day. Take care
